Chapter 13

Timeskip 
(The next day, 6.30am)

Niki's pov 

I walked into school and I see Jake behind a wall, hiding from the empty hallway of lockers. I stand by him and he chuckles.

"Wow, you actually came"
He says, impressed.

"I don't see anyone there. So you proved my point, you were lying"
I poked my inner cheek with my tongue.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1"
He counted down and peeked at the hallway.

I rolled my eyes, but when I saw a girl at Jake's locker, my heart sank gradually. I didn't want to believe his words. The girl put in a jewellery box in the locker.

I couldn't see her face so I'm gonna go and confirm it myself. 

I refused. I seriously refused to believe that Jake was speaking the truth.

Without warning, I rushed over to the girl. Right when she closed the locker, I spun her around and my eyes met with hers…

"Niki?!"
She cupped her mouth.

"What are you doing with Jake's locker?"
I asked in a stern voice.

"I was..um it was the wrong locker. We have the same code you know, I was feeling sleepy and opened his my mistake"
She laughed awkwardly.

Continuing to stare at her, she gave a guilty smile.

"Do you like Jake? Answer me honestly"
I asked, trying to keep my patience.

"No, not at all. Why would you think that?"
She laughed again.

"Why are you putting gifts and notes in his locker then? There's no one else around at this time, you're the only girl here. Why?"
I notice the fear in her eyes and I started to feel bad.

"It's not from me, Niki. It's a misunderstanding. Please let me clear things up?"
She held my hand that was once on her arm.

"How far can you lie? You're already here in front of his locker"
I ran a hand over the length of my face.

"I can't let anyone else hear. Follow me, please"
She started pulling me down the hallway.

She dragged me to an empty classroom and locked the door behind us. We went to the far corner so no one could hear us. 

The lights were still off and the only light source was the lamp posts from outside.

"You have to believe me. I'm not the person buying all these gifts. I'm only a delivery person. The notes..I know the initials is 'D' but that doesn't stand for Daeun. It stands for Dan Yena"
She explained.

"But why did you agree to do it for her? It could cause misunderstandings, like this one"
My eyebrows knitted together.

"She kept pleading with me to do it for her and agreed to pay me, which she's been doing"
Daeun played with her blazer.

"So Yena likes Jake. Not you, right? You have no feelings for him at all?"
I asked to assure myself.

"Yes. I already have my eye on someone"
She nodded while smiling.

"Huh? Who- Nevermind. I'll go now"
I stopped myself from crossing the line and turned to leave.

"Wait, Niki"
Daeun held my arm.

"Don't you want to know who it is?"
She asked, raising her brows.

"It's better if I don't"
I pulled my hand back and walked away.

"It's you"
Daeun blurted.

I pivoted on a foot and only managed to see her silhouette walking towards me. 

"I've only had my eyes on you idiot"
She laughed softly.

I'm hearing her correctly, right?

I brought her into my warm embrace, enveloping her in my arms. 

"What's gotten into you? You were so serious just a few seconds ago"
She gently pushed me off, my hands still on her waist.

I hugged her back again.

"I've had my eyes on you too, Daeun. Ever since last year. I never found the right time to tell you that directly"
I said, swaying side to side with my arms wrapped around her.

She chuckled heartily, returning my hug.

"Was that why you seemed so jealous?"
She asked, holding in her laughter.

"I can't lie about that, can I?"
We parted from the hug.

"It's okay, I know you must've been so shocked"
She said.

I lifted her up and she gasped as I placed her on the desk.

"So don't ever do favours like this anymore okay?"
I leaned my hands on the desk, caging her between my arms.

"Okay"
She said nervously.

I gave her a kiss on the cheek and we both exchanged smiles. 

At last, I've confessed.

Daeun's pov

I'm glad it was dark because my entire face is probably red right now.

"Niki- Wait sorry"
I covered my face because I couldn't contain my happiness.

"Why?"
He laughed.

"Can we hang out after school??"
I asked, keeping my head down.

"That shouldn't even be a question. Of course"
He replied happily.

"Really? Okayy!!"
I swung my feet.

"Cute"
He ruffles my hair playfully.

"Okay, let's walk to class slowly"
I hopped down from the table.

He agrees and we leave the classroom.

"You should tell Yena to confess to Jake. He was interested in her before too"
Niki suggested.

"Really? Okay I'll talk to her soon"
I nodded in agreement.

Suddenly, someone popped up from the corner. It was Sujae.

"Rare to see you two walking so peacefully together. Happily even"
Her eyes looked back and forth between be and Niki.

"Ohh, we just bumped into each other"
I replied.

"Mhm. Let's all go to class together"
Niki said.

Sujae went by my side, nudging me with her elbow.

"What's going on between you two?"
She whispered, wiggling her eyebrows. 

"Shh. I'll tell you at recess"
I hit her lightly.

"Fine fine"
She gave a suspicious smile.

What an eventful morning.
