Trigger warnings: Unwanted children, resentment, talk of death, talk of abandonment, confused kids, etc.

Let me know if I should add to the list.

"So...we're stepsisters?" Snow started awkwardly, causing Evie to snort.

"Yep."

"How... How long have you been here?" It was a question Snow didn't want to ask but knew she had to.

She needed to know when exactly Regina had had a kid.

She needed to know when she had become a stepsister.

She had to know when she had failed yet another child.

Evie shrugged, causing her hair to fall into her face slightly. "I dunno... I think you were about twenty or twenty one."

Snow quickly did some mental math, suppressing a wince as she realized just who her father must have been.

"Where... were you before that?"

She racked her brain, trying to find any sign or hints that she could have missed. Any closed doors she wasn't allowed in. Any off behaviors before her father's death but kept coming up blank.

Evie must have recognized her confusion.

"Oh. I didn't live with mama. I lived with Daddy's mama and papa until the shadow took me. Mama visited sometimes but she didn't raise me like she did Henry. "

This time Snow did wince at just how bitter the girl sounded. She hadn't known it was even possible for someone so young to sound like that.

"Oh."

"Yeah. Oh. " Evie replied, rolling her eyes- sounding and looking so much like her mother in that moment that it made Snow wonder ever so briefly if she was actually Regina's clone and not her daughter.

She quickly dismissed that thought as being silly.

After all, magic couldn't actually clone people as far as she was aware.

...

She'd have to ask Blue or Nova about that later.

Just in case.

"And don't worry. You don't have to make me your problem after we leave here."

Snow blinked, staring at the younger girl dumbfounded. "What?"

Evie rolled her eyes again.

"I heard you and Chad talking. You don't have to take me in after we get out of here. I'm not your problem. Hell-"

"Language" Snow chided instinctively-but Evie just continued on, ignoring her interruption.

"-I'm not even my mother's problem. She'll probably just send me back to my daddy's parents If they're even still alive."

Evie wondered if they were.

After all, she had been gone nine years before the curse even began .

There was a strong possibility that they wouldn't be.

They'd been older than usual when they had her dad after all and thirty-seven years was a long time.

Especially for two people who'd been pushing 50 when they raised her.

And even if they were alive, there was no guarantee that they'd stay that way for much longer or that they'd even want her anymore.
