SWEET RED WINE coated Elena's tongue as she looked over the hordes of files she'd somehow obtained over the last few days. It seemed that this Midland Circle case was just guiding her to a whole lot of nothing. She sighed as she looked at her research on the company, how it seemed to appear that the company did... absolutely nothing. Sure, it was something in finance, but there was nothing specific on the website. It confused Elena a lot, and it was certainly a bad business plan.

She leant her head back against the couch as she adjusted her position on the floor, opting for the soft rug instead of her couch for this evening. The files wouldn't even be able to fit on her coffee table, anyway. She frowned, then took another sip of wine. This was her first glass tonight, but she had a feeling it would not be the last. Elena ran her fingertips over the paper, trying to piece things together in her head.

Nope. Nothing was coming.

She groaned and set her glass down, before massaging her temples. Why was this so confusing?! Maybe it was just today. Yes, maybe tomorrow she'd have a much better grasp on this. But still, she'd feel bad if she'd spent the whole day with no progression, so she grabbed her phone.

Blake Tower hadn't been convinced that Midland Circle would have a connection to Rand Enterprises, but there was something tugging at Elena that encouraged her to check it out. Leave no stone unturned, or whatever. She crossed her legs and adjusted the sleeves on her blouse, then scrolled through her contacts. Meachum, Meachum, Meachum... where was he?

In Elena's mind, it made perfect sense to give the CEO of Rand Enterprises a phone call. Even if he was slightly stand-offish the last time she'd met with him at his office, he had seemed willing to help her. And if someone was targeting various companies across New York City... surely he'd want to know? For optics, or whatever the Wall Street suits liked to say? Elena was convinced that they made up a secret language for talking about business to make everyone else feel stupid.

As she searched her contacts for Ward Meachum's number, she went over the factors of similarity in her head. Well, first of all there was the fact that both Rand Enterprises and Midland Circle Financial were big corporations. It was a pretty vague connection, but a connection nonetheless. Another similarity was the fact that drugs were even involved at all. It did seem pretty strange that there'd be such an incident so close to each other on the timeline. However, this could mean nothing. Businessmen, especially in New York, were infamous for their reliance on drugs. Elena knew that for a fact. She'd represented many whilst working for Landman and Zack. But they rarely seemed intent on bringing a whole company down. So maybe there was some connection?
