Heart's Desire

When y/n reached the third greenhouse, Penny arrived. The Hufflepuff was in a very bright mood as she bound up to her with a smile, which she returned as they both entered the greenhouse.

As soon as they entered, they saw an unfamiliar, tall object draped with cloth at the very end of the room. Walking towards it, they deduced what it was: "The Mirror of Erised!" Penny exclaimed happily. Both of them were happy to find it first and started to discuss how to deliver it back to the headmaster. But y/n couldn't help but see how Penny kept on glancing back towards the covered mirror, which she had asked the reason why. "Should I look into it or not? Or is this just me, or would anyone else like to do the same?" Penny asked, twirling her fingers nervously.

"That's for you to decide, Penny. And maybe some would like to also look..." y/n replied. Penny assured her that she wouldn't be looking. That's when Professor Sprout arrived with a sharp frown at them after discovering that she had the mirror. "Why is the Mirror of Erised here, Professor Sprout?" y/n pointed out. "I'm not sure that's any of your business." the professor emphasised with a furrowed brow, also showing her reluctance to disclose any information. They explained what they were about to do with the mirror, locating it and getting it back to the headmaster.

Y/n politely attempted to persuade the older woman to help them give it back to the headmaster, who was actively searching for it. The herbology professor sighed sadly as she explained that the Mirror of Erised presence inside the greenhouse was because she had looked in it and liked what she had seen. She had also regrettably admitted that she didn't consult the headmaster before relocating the mirror. "I certainly didn't expect it to cause such a stir." she confessed.

When Penny asked what she had seen, the professor just responsed with only explaining herself that she would only share the story with the headmaster present. Penny had proposed that they go to the headmaster's office, to which the professor agreed. "That sounds like a good idea. Let's go see the headmaster to tell him we found the Mirror of Erised!" y/n eagerly agreed as she joined the older woman out of the greenhouse, telling Penny to guard the mirror until they get back.

The headmaster greeted them with a smile and nod as she entered his office, followed by the herbology professor. They exchanged greetings and pleasantries as the headmaster welcomed them and asked the reason for their visit. Professor Sprout began to explain how she was the one to take the Mirror of Erised up in one of the greenhouses. Y/N listened carefully.

The professor revealed that she was busy trying to save one of the first puffapods she had planted with all her might. Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain, and the plant died. Heartbroken, she had come across the Mirror of Erised in one of the rooms on the seventh floor as she was collecting herbology books and holding the puffapod plant on her way to the greenhouses. "I saw a greenhouse full of thriving puffapods born from my first plant, joyfully exploding everywhere with life!" she shared her vision from the mirror.

"How grand and lovely!" the headmaster commented, exuding the same happiness the older woman was displaying. "It brought me immense joy, and I was quite reluctant to part with it. It made me happy as I tend to the plants." Professor Sprout confessed. She extended her apologies for any trouble she may have caused and thanked y/n for bringing the matter to her attention.

"I completely understand, professor. I also do care for plants and creatures in my spare time. I want them to thrive and be happy." Y/n said to the older woman to show her understanding of the herbology professor's predicament. "Compassion is an important virtue, Ms. L/n. And it's especially right and rare to see it in a student." The headmaster then offered his wisdom about the mirror, cautioning about its potential to make people fixate on a future that might not be attainable. They discussed more about all the staffs' privileges for a while. When they were finished, they turned their attention to the Ravenclaw student, asking if anyone except her knew the location of the Mirror of Erised. To which she explained that it was only Penny who was aware of it and that she had no inclination to look at the reflection of the mirror.
