Heba couldn't believe the fact that they were a few houses away from the Gamal's mansion. Yes!, they are in Thebes already and she doesn't understand the nostalgic feeling that accompanies the air in Thebes. While she looked around the very much familiar area, she felt different types of emotions as if she wasn't born and brought up in this same environment. It's barely six months since she got married but it feels as though she has spent six years away from home... well home now, is where Habib is.
As they pass by each house, getting even closer and closer to their destination, Heba naturally recalls all the good and bad times she has had. Good times like the memories she shared with Ayeza and Hammad around the neighborhood while growing up, Good times like the countless times she walked with Omaa down to the market to get groceries while they gist and share laughter, Good times like the one spent with Di every night, outside the house while they hold hands and look up to the sky, appreciating the beauty of the moon, telling tales and praising the stars. Unknowingly to her, a few drops of tears cascaded down her cheeks and Habib who was seated next to her, gently held her hands, squeezed a bit to gain her attention which he did, and whispered to her ears alone "You missed home, this much?"
She flashed him a small smile, unable to give him a definite reply, she looked back through the window of the car and she was beginning to view the house from the position of the car
" I do not miss this large yet empty building, I only miss the few people who made life much bearable for me, in a community like this one"She thought.
"We are here!" Hammad happily gestured, looking back at Ikiey who was at the passenger's seats together with Heba and Habib. He could vividly see the nervousness that clouded her features and he wished he could take them all away and make her feel super comfortable but... he was sure it's natural and she would definitely loosen up, especially with Ayeza and Dina around. While they all pulled out of the car and made their way into the mansion, young lads in the house recognized them quickly and ran up to them to welcome them in. A lot of orphans are under the care of Abooh, and that's what made everyone love Abooh despite him being problematic at times, because of his beneficence, which is quite commendable.
The boys helped bring their things in while they all trudged further into the biggest mansion in their neighborhood, The Gamal's household. Honestly, Ikiey wouldn't have imagined the house to be this large, well, she had pictured a big mansion suitable for a man with four wives and over 30 children but, the house was even bigger and more luxurious than expected... a perfect blend of tradition and modern elements. Ikiey looked in awe, how the walls and ceilings of the living room were artistically constructed with colourful frescoes depicting hieroglyphics and a few other ancient arts hung around the walls. The house was heavenly painted in warm earthy tones like beige or terracotta, creating a cozy and welcoming aura.
The large room was adorned by sets of low coffee tables surrounded by comfortable sofas and cushions on the floor illustrating the hospitality Egyptians were known for. The floors were tailed with patterns inspired by traditional Egyptian motifs. The large windows allow natural light in as well as curtains and blinds for privacy which were adorned by sheer fabrics and decorative elements like tassels and beads. For decor, there were large and well-organized shelves showcasing various trinkets, potters, or souvenirs creating a comfortable and culturally rich living space.
A voice revived Ikiey, she was lost in the beauty of the house. "Welcome home sis!" That was Ayeza's voice as they exchanged impromptu hugs, though it was warm. Upon unlocking from the hug, Omaa appeared and Ikiey recognized her quickly as they've face timed before. She was quick to bow her head a bit in respect but Omaa halted the action, pulling her into a hug rather. Ikiey was moved by the act, her heart was overwhelmed. "Welcome home daughter!" She has been anticipating their arrival for a long time. She wanted to welcome her soon to her daughter in law with open hands and she is finally getting to do just that. Breaking off from each other, Omaa kissed Habib and Hammad's hands as she warmly received them. The smile on her face made it obvious how happy she must be.
