Before you go and buy any random foundation, it is important to establish whether your skin tone has pinkish (cool) or yellowish (warm) undertones.
The easiest way to determine this is by placing something gold and then something silver against your face and seeing which one suits better. One will suit you down to the ground while the other will make you look drab and odd.
If the gold wins, you have warm skin, whereas if silver wins, you have cool undertones.
Foundations that are more pink than yellow better suit cool skin, whereas foundations which are more yellow than pink better suit warm skin tones.
The majority of people dab a bit of foundation onto the insides of their wrists when trying makeup but that isn't always accurate. The best way to test foundation is to apply a little on your face. The wrong tone will look too yellow, or orange, for your skin.
When you find the right one, it will seem to vanish into your skin! :)
