Trigger warning: mention of suicide.

Mia closed her eyes but shrugged at his words, not confirming it but not denying it either. She truly didn't know how she felt about Danila. She had an immense pull toward him but she could never love anyone the way she loved Kirill.

Grave silence fell between them as there was nothing either one could have possibly said after that. Kirill's heart was beating fast as he tried to keep up with it and take enough breaths to overcome this revelation.

Kirill felt concussed. He never could have predicted something like this would happen between them. Was Mia in love with another man? He had no more purpose to live. He had no more reason to breathe. He closed his eyes and descended into pure hell inside his mind and soul.

He thought about the last almost fifteen years of his life and how much Mia meant to him throughout all this time. He felt like he had done everything wrong. He placed his trust in the wrong person. He felt empty and betrayed.

Kirill didn't blame Mia, he blamed himself for letting all this happen. He knew she was in difficult circumstances and he realized that Danila had been working hard to manipulate and present her with a specific reality. And it worked out so well for him. Everything worked out so well for Danila, thought Kirill, as he sat in front of Mia and stared at the table.

Kirill was behind bars, left to his own devices to get out of there and Danila was prospering, colluding with a snake to poison his wife's mind and control her.

He looked at Mia who sat motionless in front of him and remembered how she cried at his dead body on their wedding night. He didn't know what to say and clearly, neither did she.

"Please be honest. Is it me or him?" Kirill blurted out but didn't know why he asked that, afraid of her answer.

Mia looked up at him seriously but responded confidently and without hesitation. "You. It's always you, Kirill. I have some sort of feelings for him but it's not love. I love you with every fibre of my being. I am dying without you beside me, Kirill. I can't live without you. I can't." She was beginning to cry again as she pronounced those words. "I want to kill myself from what is going on inside my heart. I can't live without you...but I want to have him with me too." She finished truthfully, trying to convey her feelings.

Kirill wasn't sure if the answer made him feel any better. But he knew that he hadn't been replaced and sighed with a bit of relief. He reached for her hands again but she got up from her chair and walked over to him as he gladly clasped her in a hug and placed her on his lap.

"I won't live without you, Kirill." She whispered looking into his eyes. "I can't. If I lose you, if you die...I will lie down in the cold ground beside you." She spoke gently and held his cheeks. "I've never loved anyone as much as I love you...and while I can feel momentary infatuation or a crush, I can't ever love anyone as much as I love you. You are my destiny." She spoke exactly what she felt. Being with him elated her and she forgot everything that was happening outside their little cocoon.

He listened to her and felt heartbroken that this is the kind of reality he presented her with. Tamik, his fake death, Oleg, and now this, him in prison. Although he remembered that Vladislav wasn't his fault and that made him feel a tiny bit better.

"Mia...I don't know why we have the worst luck." He had his hands on her back and she lightly chuckled at his words as she continued looking at him with teary eyes. "Promise me that you will wait for me?" He asked as she vehemently nodded and broke down into tears again. "I will try to understand your feelings for us both but, promise me that when this is over, you will come back to me?" He almost pleaded while she kissed him.
