I wanted to know everything in the world

I started reading chapter books

I learned far too much when I was four

I was told to stay away from the front door

Because on the other side there were crooks

But I wanted to know everything in the world

I found out gun shots vibrated the floor

I discovered my grandpa's perverted looks

I learned far too much when I was four

I swept, cleaned, and did basic chores

I put the locks over the front door hooks

I wanted to know everything in the world

I mastered profane curse words

I tasted soap and laughed at toots

I learned far too much when I was four

I acquired flight from the sound of my father's roar

I hid from my family in all the crannies and nooks

Yet I wanted to know everything in the world

I just learned far too much when I was four...
