Remus to Sirius

They say I'm a monster,
A deadly, mindless beast,
The textbooks say I'm evil,
To say the very least.

Almost everyone agrees,
Sometimes, I do too,
Always monitoring myself,
Not wanting to hurt you.

You tell me I'm normal,
I'm more human than beast,
But once a month I look at you,
And see nothing but a feast.

You're the stars and I'm the moon,
You're my constellation,
If I keep you away you're never hurt,
That's my only consolation.

I know you're hurt, but I am too,
I'm sorry we need separation,
I'm sorry that I set us apart,
I did it out of desperation.

I don't want to hurt you,
I'd rather hurt myself,
So I hide my face in textbooks,
And cower behind the shelf.

I know that I'm a monster,
But I forget around you,
Because people hear your surname,
And, they judge you too.

I'm a monster, you're a Black,
We could never be,
Even if it's only when,
I'm around you, I'm free.

So I'm sorry that I hurt you,
But we could never work,
If it's any consolation,
Just know I'm hurting too.
