KNOCKING OUT COMMIES

⋇⋆✦⋆⋇ "I mean, you have to admit, as a feat of engineering alone, this is impressive," Dustin says, his voice echoing through the long perpetual hallway.

Steve scoffs at Dustin's idiocy. "What are you talking about? It's a total fire hazard. There's no stairs, there's no exit, there's just an elevator that drops you halfway to hell."

"They're Commies," Erica points out. "You don't pay people, they cut corners."

"To be fair to our Russian comrades," Robin starts. "I don't think this tunnel was designed for walking."

"Can't argue about the Russians now, can you, Gina?" Steve chuckles to the girl.

Gina gives Steve a glare. "It doesn't matter anymore, let's just find a way to get out," she says, her voice monotonous, trying to give off the 'don't talk to me' energy.

"I mean, think about it," Robin continues, "they developed the perfect system for transporting that cargo. It all comes into the mall like any old delivery, and then they load it up onto those trucks and nobody's the wiser."

Steve stops for a second. "You think they built this whole mall so they could transport that green poison?" he asks, keeping his stare on the hallway ahead.

"I very seriously doubt it's something as boring as poison," Dustin counters. "It's gotta be much more valuable, like promethium or something."

"What the hell is promethium?" Steve asks, his face scrunched.

"It's what Victor Stone's dad used to make Cyborg's bionic and cybernetic components." Robin informs, nodding her head as she talks.

"You're all so nerdy, it makes me physically ill," Erica says, adding a fake gag at the end for emphasis.

"No, no, no," Steve immediately defends himself. "Don't lump me in with them. I'm not a nerd."

Gina drowns out the incessant blabber coming from the four, only wanting to leave this weird hallway slash warehouse place. Robin drones on and on about nuclear weapons and toilet stops to Disneyland and why the supposed Russians would build a supposed nuclear weapon in Hawkins. Gina notices Dustin and Steve fall behind and stops for a moment, she only hears Dustin ask Steve if the Russians know, not knowing what they could know that's so secretive. When Robin stops to question the boys, Dustin's walkie runs static then the infamous Russian code.

They all crouch around the walkie, Gina bending slightly at the knee to seem somewhat interested, listening to Robin recite the code in Russian.

"It's the code," she concludes. "Wherever it's coming from, it's close. And if there's one thing we know about that signal..."

"It can reach the surface," Dustin finishes.

Everyone stands up and continues walking, now with a quicker and more confident pace. Even Gina feeling somewhat relieved that she'll be home before nightfall.

⋇⋆✦⋆⋇ Gina crouches uncomfortably behind a big cabinet, all five kids hidden out of the workers on the small red carts sight. Steve peeks his head out and whispers some cliche spy lingo as everyone else files out from behind the cabinet.

"Okay," Robin sighs. "That was close."

Steve rolls his eyes. "Relax, would you? Nobody saw..."

Gina turns the corner to see a two leveled base, filled with workers in coats and big men menacingly walking around with guns.

They duck down behind barrels and Erica spats out something about seeing the "comms room", what that will do to help them, Gina doesn't know, but she'll take any chance she gets to go home.

"Are you sure?" Dustin asks.

"Positive," she confirms again. "The door was open for a second, and I saw a bunch of lights and machines and shit in there."

Dustin scoffs slightly. "That could be a hundred different things," he says, not willing to take the risk.

"I'll take those odds." Robins nods to Steve who leads the group across the hall and behind another barrel where a scientist walks out of a room with a keycard. Once the worker walks away, Steve catches the door before it locks and files everyone in.

Gina's stomach drops when she notices a soldier sitting in a chair, the same scared expression as herself. He reaches for his gun and just when Gina says her final words in her head, Robin butts in with some Russian words, presumably the code as it's the only Russian she knows.

The man and Robin exchange confused Russian and when he reaches for his gun, Steve starts to run full speed while towards the man, tackling him into the counter. The Russian easily throws Steve off of him, sending him face first into an adjacent counter. Steve ducks just in time as the Russian throws a punch. A few other versions of punches are thrown before Steve picks up a phone and it's the Russian in the head, sending him backwards and hitting his head on a table, now knocked out cold.

"Dude!" Dustin yells. "You did it! You won a fight!" Dustin grabs the keys keycard on the Russians belt, calling it the 'ticket out of here'

Erica scoffs in disbelief. "You want to walk all the way back?"

"No, I thought we could hang out for a little bit, relax, have a picnic maybe," Dustin responds, gallons of sarcasm in his voice.

"Have a picnic?" Erica repeats. "We came here for the radio."

Robin grabs Gina's wrist and leads her up a flight of stairs towards a flashing blue light.

"What is that?" Gina asks, the first thing she has said in hours.

Robin hesitates for a moment, visibly worried. "I don't know." She looks through the small glass window and immediately runs back down the stairs to tell the others.

Gina looks through the window and it looks like something out of Star Wars. A giant laser with a blue light coming out of it pointed at the wall, looking as though it was opening a...portal or something. Not to mention the building around it, workers walk gingerly around the laser, surely to be killed if they even touch it since they're in full hazmat suits. Scientists inside a small room with big boards with colorful buttons, also looking straight out of a movie.

"Oh, my God," Gina whispers to herself, feeling the danger of her situation rise by almost a million.
