the nakba refers to ‘ the catastrophe ’ in arabic where
• over 750,000 palestinians were expelled
• 15,000 palestinians killed
• 531 towns, cities and villages were destroyed and depopulated
• 155 massacres were committed.

in late 1947 for the establishment of a jewish state. in 1948, the zionists were able to seize 78% of palestine, as the remaining 22% were the gaza strip and the west bank.

the agreement originally was ( by the un ) that 56% of land was to be given to the jews, who previously owned 6% and made up only 33% of the population. immediately after the partition plan took place, the expulsion of palestinians took place.

in exile, palestinians sought refuge in lebanon, jordan and syria.
