CASSIDY STRAINED HER EYES A LITTLE MORE. She was tired, but she felt like she was finally getting somewhere after last night. Yet again, she was trying to sink herself into the plane of darkness between reality and whatever was underneath, the folds of the blindfold pressing into her skin and causing her head to ache. She might have tied the blindfold a little too tight, but it was only because she wanted to have another try before leaving for school.
It felt as if finding Eleven again was right in front of her, like a word that was on the tip of her tongue. It constantly gnawed at her, the thought that Eleven could be out there, anywhere, and they all thought she was dead. She was sure that’s what Abi, Dustin and Lucas thought anyway, probably Will too. Mike was in denial and she was right there with him. But she didn’t see it as denial, just hope. It didn’t seem right that Eleven’s life ended so abruptly. That didn’t seem like a real ending. Like closing the book right before the last chapter.
And so, here Cassidy still was, sitting cross-legged on her carpet, her back leaning up against her bed to keep her grounded. Eyes closing so tightly she was starting to see colors in the darkness. Hand clasped around the static-filled radio in her lap. She could feel the power rushing into her veins, the tickling at her fingertips that had once sent her into such a fearful state, but now made her feel… good. The power made her feel in control. Helpful. Able.
