We had finally made our way through the woods to an open area. We lost all contact with the others and haven't seen them in days. At least I know I am with someone who at least cares about me. Lost in thought, I ran into the back of III, who had stopped to look around. "Sorry!" I said quietly as I rubbed my forehead.
He chuckled, "It looks like this will be camp for a while." I could hear the irritation laced in his voice. He was just as tired of this as I was; we would take two steps forward just to get knocked back five steps. We would get comfortable, and then you are picking up and moving again the next thing you know.
I hope we stay here for a bit; the area seems bigger than before. The longer I am out here, the more I enjoy nature. The birds, flowers, trees, and even the bugs. They are all crucial in their own way. Apart from some bugs, they can return to the hell they come from and stay there.
III was off doing something while I sat in a patch of grass, letting the sun shine down on me. It was nice feeling the warm rays leave small kisses against my skin; a smile formed on my face before it fell as I began thinking. What if we never get this again once we leave this place? Or what if he decided that I wasn't what he wanted?
Thoughts ran through my head as I stared at the grass before me. A pained expression was drawn on my face as I rubbed my thigh roughly. I had no idea III had sat beside me; I rubbed my legs roughly, hoping to get the thoughts out of my head.
He placed his hand over mine and squeezed it lightly. "Are you okay?" he asked, looking at me; he seemed worried. I turned my head and smiled softly, nodding. "I'm alright; I just had a few thoughts clouding my mind," I said to him before looking at the tents he had set up.
I had no idea where he had gotten them from, but I didn't ask any questions; I was just happy to sleep away from all of the elements occasionally. "If you want, you can go lay down while I go look for some things to start a fire with," he said as he stood up, holding his hand out for me to grab.
I placed my hand in his and brushed myself off with his help. "Are you sure? It would be best if you didn't go alone out there," I told him. He knew after everything I didn't want to leave him alone. Knowing my luck, it would end up like last time; a shiver ran down my spine as I thought back to that day.
A simple nod was given as he walked off. "I will be back soon," he said before disappearing. I sighed as I walked to one of the tents and went inside. As soon as I walked in, I could feel the exhaustion hit me like a brick wall. I groaned, rubbing my head before flopping down onto the cot.
Before I knew what was happening, I was fast asleep in a dreamless state. I stirred in my sleep as I felt a warm hand on my back. Before I could look at who it was, I had kicked the person who touched me. My heart ran a million miles a minute as I waited to see who it was.
The man groaned loudly as he lay on the floor. "Good morning to you, too," the voice said. I gasped and quickly sat beside him, trying to help him sit up. "III! I am so sorry, I didn't know who you were," I exclaimed.
He chuckled and nodded understanding; he finally sat up. "I was coming to see if you were hungry," he said as he glanced at me. A small smile formed as I nodded, "I am, actually; where did you find some food?" I asked curiously.
"I found a backpack as I looked for some wood; it happened to have a few canned goods," he said as he stood up, stretching out the side I kicked him on. I nodded as I stood beside him, letting out a small yawn. "I see; it is better than nothing," he nodded while walking out of the tent.
I followed him out; the wind was rough tonight, which isn't normal. "The wind is horrible," I mumbled loud enough for him to hear. "Its odd" he said simply looking around, I nodded as I did the same.
"Is it a sign?" I asked; he didn't answer as I stared into the dark woods across from us. It almost looked like many eyes were staring back at me. A shiver ran down my spine as I turned on my heels and quickly walked towards him. "III, I think things are watching," I said to the man before me.
He nodded. "Don't pay attention to them, and they will disappear." I scrunched my brows together as I stared at the man in disbelief. He knew but didn't care? I have never seen those things before, but now they decide it is a perfect time to show up out of nowhere.
A small huff left my lips as he handed me a small bowl with some soup in it, "they have always been there" he said quietly. I shook my head as I began to eat. "I don't think so," I said between mouthfuls.
