Hidden Mistake

CHAPTER 17

"Hi Agent Nyx. Good morning."

Inangat ko ang tingin sa nagsalita. It was Keihan. Oh I haven't seen him in a while.

I smiled and greeted him. "Morning" then went back to reading some paperwork.

"Uh, I bought you something to eat. Napadaan kasi ako doon sa restaurant sa malapit. I thought of buying some food for you, since matagal na nang nagkausap tayo."

I looked at him and saw him holding a paper bag. So generous of him to bring me food, huh.

Nagkamot siya ng batok nang makitang tiningnan ko lang ang dala.

Tinanggap ko ang dala niya at ngumiti ng hindi labas ang ngipin. "Thanks."

Tamang-tama. I haven't eaten breakfast yet. Tinatamad na akong magluto kanina, so I went here straight with an empty stomach.

Narinig ko pa ang paghinga niya ng malalim, kaya napailing na lang ako at natawa ng bahagya. I appreciate it a lot.

"Kumusta?" his cheeks turned tomato red after asking that.

"Same as usual. How's the mission?"

Inayos ko ang desks at ang mga papel para hindi makalat ang mesa ko. He is just there standing in front of my table.

"Ayos naman. It was successful just as planned."

"Good then."

The silence was so loud. Hindi ko alam ang sunod na sasabihin. Aside from eating with him the last time, I don't remember being so close to him. 

Hindi naman sa naiinis ako sa presensiya niya, but I don't want him to think that we are already so close. I  held my walls high that only few can get through it.

In his case, we haven't known each other that much. But my instincts are telling me he brings no danger.

"I'm sorry for interrupting you. Uh see you sa meeting."

I just nodded and smiled a little to not make him feel awkward.

When I felt him leave, I opened the bag and checked the food. Nanuot kaagad ang amoy ng ulam. I felt even more hungry just by its smell.

It's a beef steak and a macaroni soup. May extra pang coffee.

Nilabas ko ang pagkain para makakain ako at makapagtrabaho na ng tuloy-tuloy.

Susubo na sana ako nang may naglapag ng tubig sa mesa ko.

Tiningnan ko kung sino, and it's Hunt. I scanned his face and saw that his wounds had bandages.

"Thank you." I said, and I started eating.

Gutom na ako. Mamaya ko na siya kakausapin.

"You missed breakfast again?" he asked.

I just hummed as a response because my mouth is full. Ang sarap ng steak.

"I bought you food for breakfast. Too bad, someone gave you first."

Napaangat ako ng tingin sa kaniya at napatigil sa pagnguya.

Pinakita niya ang dala, kaya tinaasan ko siya ng kilay at nilunok ang kinakain.

"Why didn't you tell me?" sabi ko at nilahad ang kamay para ibigay niya.

Instead of giving it to me, tinago niya pa sa likod niya.

Tiningnan ko siya ng mariin at humalukipkip. "Tss. You went here because?"

Nginuso niya ang pagkain na kinakain ko bago nagsalita.
