I walked back from the beach with mascara stains down my face I had cried all the tears out and I felt nothing I was numb I found Conrad sitting at the edge of the pool with a cigarette in his hand I felt like taking a swim so I stripped right then and there I was too numb to feel embarrassed or honestly give a fuck about what he thought I was in my bra and underwear I dove head first into the pool no shame whatsoever I swam to the other end of the pool and then back coming up for air "no shame I see" he says with a smirk flicking the cigarette "I just wanted a midnight swim" I say "I didn't know you smoked" I said "you're not going to give me a speech on how bad they are for you" he said like he had heard the speech hundreds of times "no if I did I would be a hypocrite" I said putting my hand up as if I was surrendering "Wow Madison Conklin smokes" I rolled my eyes and swam the other direction
"Conrad we are going to the bonfire you coming," Jere said walking out of the house with Steven right behind him "Hey M you wanna come," he said trying to see if I was ok "Sure why not," I said getting out of the poll as my brother looks away "put some clothes on Maddy," Steven said throwing a towel at me "grow up steven," I said wanting to slap him across the face "okayyy," Jere said "M meet us in the car in 10 okay," he said trying to cut the tension "got it," I said going upstairs to change I changed into a v neck black crop top with pants that wear a little baggy and black high top covers then I texted Belly and told her where we where going and to come if she wanted to I put some makeup on mascara blush on my nose and a little highlighter
"Finally," Steven said "Could you be any more of a crybaby Steven," I said getting into the back seat of Jere's Jeep Conrad looked ready to leave Steven here when we got there everyone was already here and Conrad had gone off with some girl I was already mad so that didn't help much I was about to sit down when someone tapped my shoulder it was a tall guy who looked familiar omg Nathen James me and he hung out every summer Jeremiah and him where always hanging out he would hang out with the hole group actually "Nathen you look so different," I said with a really big smile "I look at you you're gone for one summer and you come back looking like this," he said with open arms he hugged me and spun me around

"Belly" I hear Steven scream "I am sorry my Steven and belly give me a second," I say "It's fine I'll go with you just in case" he winks and I laugh I stomp over to them as well as you can in the sand "why are you screaming," I ask Steven "Belly she is 16," he says holding her arm "ok we where 14 when we first starting sneaking out to party," I told him smacking his arm of Belly "Bell's what are you doing here," Jere said putting his arm around her "come on let's get you something to drink," he said pointing to the soda "no I am taking her home," Steven said about to grab her when I stepped in front of him and smacked him right across the face "stop being such an asshole to belly you can say whatever you want about me but you will not speak to our sister like that you hear me," I said with my finger in his face fighting back the tears he walked away and so did Belly I new Jere would take care of her
"Are you ok?" Nathen asked with a beer and a whole bottle of tequila in his hand "I will be once you hand me one of those" I said pointing at his hand he laughed and took a seat right next to me "Here" he said trying to hand me to beer I grabbed the bottle of tequila and started chugging "wow wow slow down it's not going anywhere" he said pulling it out of my mouth "do you do this often" he said concerned "tequila isn't that strong just don't think about it" I said "Okay so why are you and your brother fighting" he said taking a sip of beer "he was saying all this stuff about what happened with a guy and me last year but he doesn't know what actually happened" I said and then started chugging tequila again within 30 minutes I had finished the bottle of tequila and was drunk really drunk I couldn't see straight by the time Nathen realized it was too late
"shut your mouth" Conrad screamed I turned around and saw Conrad punching the guy's Belly met at the gas station I got up almost tripping over bottles all over the floor "Conrad stop he's not worth it," I said trying to stop them I tried to pull him off even tho I could see four of him and his elbow hit me right in the face I hit the ground and passed out partially because of the alcohol "Maddy Maddy" Conrad was above me trying to wake me up "ughh my head" he picked me up and carried me to the car he laid me down in the back of Jeremiah's jeep my head was in his lap "you hit me in the face" I said "You got in the way and it wasn't on purpose" he said guilty "I didn't want you to get hurt" I said he smiled and brushed a piece of hair out of my face "I love your smile" I told him and I put my hand on his cheek he was shocked
"Really" Mom was screaming at us "You sneak out go to a party drinking and get escorted home by the police do you know what would have happened If the police didn't know your parents and you two ( looking at me and Conrad) you guys are the oldest you're supposed to protect them" "do you guys smell that," Steven said "Where you guys smoking," Steven said "no we... we where not go to bed all of you" I was so tired and I was drunk out of my mind all of a sudden Conrad picks me up carries me up the stairs and lays me into my bed tuck me in and kisses me on the forehead
