Chapter Seven

Alrox sat at a table with Din and Valera, poking at his food. It wasn't that he wasn't hungry, or even that the food looked weird. It was surprisingly normal. He was still processing everything that had happened at this point, still analyzing these new people's every move, observing the strange variety of aliens that surrounded him.

Even though humans seemed to be a majority, aliens of all kinds were integrated equally. While most looked humanoid, Alrox noted that many looked very different from humans, some even resembled fish, or had more than one pair of arms, while others appeared to be colorful humans, with tails coming from their heads. Grogu however, seemed to be one of a kind, perhaps he was even the last of his kind. Alrox didn't want to ask, at least not yet.

Alrox glanced up from his food as a woman sat next to his mother. She too was armored, though hers was black, with red and gold accents. As the woman sat, she removed her own helmet, revealing a face similar to Valera's.

"Alrox, this is your aunt, Thalia, my sister," Valera spoke.

"Hey, kid," Thalia said, giving Valera a glance. Alrox waved back awkwardly. Thalia seemed to be communicating non-verbally with Valera, which Alrox assumed may have been an aspect of the Eleven thing, now identified as the Force. Though their conversation couldn't be heard, Alrox knew just by the facial expressions of the two women that Thalia had been judging him, and his mother defending him.

To distract himself, Alrox forced himself to eat. He was hungry, after all, though his appetite tried to tell him otherwise. As soon as he took a bite, he couldn't help himself. It was odd to him how this space food tasted a lot like chicken. In fact it tasted exactly like chicken, though he had been told it was from a bird called a tip-yip. It sounded like quite an odd name for a bird, but Alrox couldn't expect the naming process in space to be the same as the naming process on earth. The food was gone within minutes, and apparently Thalia had eaten just as fast, as she was already getting up to leave, with another woman approaching.

"Thalia," The woman acknowledged her friend.

"Leia, I was just about to go check on her," Thalia said.

"Thank you," Leia said, "just remember---"

"I know, I know" Thalia responded. She knew the drill, and planned on following it as long as nothing came up. Leia sat in the seat that Thalia had just left, extending a hand, which Alrox shook.

"I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Leia Organa-Solo," The woman said, "I'm one of the Generals here." Alrox almost choked on his food.

"General? Did I do something...." Alrox trailed off, he caused a scene when he first woke up, of course he did something that would have been brought to her attention, though the woman still had a kind demeanor, so that couldn't have been what she was here for.

"No, of course not. I believe you're friends with my daughter," Leia said, and Alrox had to think for a few minutes, he didn't know anyone here, did he? And then it dawned on him.

"Gianna?" he asked.

"Yes," The woman responded with a smile, "Thalia and Valera are also my cousins."

"So, you're also my aunt, just more distantly?"

Leia nodded. It took Alrox a few seconds to realize what that meant. His eyes widened, and he almost choked, again.

"Gianna and I are cousins?" he asked, bewildered. His mind flickered back to Gianna's friend at the pep rally, who had thought they were a couple. He had never been so glad to be friendzoned, especially after this revelation.

"About half of the Force users here in the resistance are related somehow, though there are some first generation Jedi here, too, like Sade, who I believe you've met," Leia said.

"Jedi are the trained Force users, right?" Alrox asked. He hadn't heard the term before, but it was easy to put two and two together.

"Jedi are those trained to use the Force for good, those trained to use the Force for evil are called Sith, but you'll learn more about those later," Leia responded. Alrox nodded, not sure what to say.

"Well, it was nice to meet you.. er... general" Alrox said after a few moments of awkward silence.

"It was nice to meet you too, Alrox," Leia said as she got up to walk back to who Alrox assumed to be her husband, Gianna's father.

After a few minutes of awkward silence, a voice spoke through Valera's gauntlet.

"Valera, liser gar send gar ad at medical bay yamika ehn solus rayshe'a," the voice came. Valera was quick to respond.

"Ni liser vaabir ibac, bid she's Oyabaar?" Valera asked, into the gauntlet. There was silence for a few seconds.

"What's going on?" Alrox asked, hoping for an answer.

"Gianna's awake," Alrox's mother said. Alrox jumped to his feet, sending his chair clattering to the ground with a loud clank. Alrox turned around to find the source of the sound, discovering that it was his own chair, and that everyone was looking at him. Alrox's face reddened as he picked up the chair, carefully setting it back down in its upright position, but not yet sitting back down.

"Elek, bal she's aru'ela sa pirusti," the voice returned, Alrox now identified it as Thalia. Gianna must have been the person she had told the general she would check on.

"Kaysh's bat his ara," Valera responded and put her arm down, "do you remember how to get there?"

Alrox shook his head.

"I can take him," Din spoke up, getting up and placing his helmet back onto his head. Though the helmet rule had been let go a long time ago, he still preferred to keep his helmet on when he didn't need to have it off for activities such as eating.

Alrox couldn't help but to be antsy. After all, he had felt so alone in this new world for the eight hours he had been awake. It would be good to have his friend back at his side. After what felt like an eternity of walking through the halls that all looked the same, he finally stopped at the door to Gianna's room.

"Thanks," he said to his father, who nodded in response.

Alrox pressed the button to open the hatch and it slid open, but as Alrox looked at the hospital bed, he found that it was empty, the blankets appearing to have been torn off violently, and the IV that was once in Gianna's arm thrown on the floor. Panic began to set in as these thoughts occurred to him. Was this a trap? Had they already taken Gianna somewhere else and about to take him too? However, Alrox's thoughts were interrupted by the relieved voice of his friend.

"Alrox! Oh my gosh you're okay!" Gianna called out as she ran to Alrox, embracing him tightly. Alrox hugged her back, thankful that that scare had been just that, a scare.

A/N: the translation for the mando'a conversation is as follows:

Thalia: Valera, can you send your son to medical bay room three one five
Valera: I can do that, so she's awake?
Thalia: Yes, and she's gotten hostile as well
Valera: He's on his way
