After a week spent with her family, Sage eagerly looked forward to a change of scenery as she, Connor, and Maelyn were going to The Hughes brothers' lake house. The invitation from Luke had come as a welcome surprise.

As they drove, Sage couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation building within her. The prospect of spending time at the lake house with all her friends excited her.

The journey passed in comfortable silence, the gentle hum of the car's engine providing a soothing backdrop to their thoughts and conversations. Sage stole glances at Connor from time to time, a soft smile playing at the corners of her lips.

As they approached the lake house, Sage's heart quickened with anticipation, her pulse thrumming with excitement. Pulling into the driveway, she caught sight of Luke, Quince, and Jack waiting on the porch, their faces lighting up with joy as they spotted their friends arriving.

Sage's eyes met Quinces, and without a word, they rushed forward to greet each other, their embrace a testament to the deep bond they shared. Connor followed suit, exchanging warm greetings with Luke and Jack before joining the group on the porch.

"Welcome!" Luke exclaimed, his voice filled with genuine enthusiasm as he enveloped Sage and Connor in a bear hug. "So glad you could make it!"

Quince nodded in agreement, her easy smile lighting up her features as she ushered them inside. The lake house was even more beautiful than Sage had imagined, with its rustic charm and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

As they settled into their rooms, laughter and chatter filled the air, the sound of their voices mingling with the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore. Sage felt a sense of peace wash over her, the worries and cares of the outside world fading into the background as she found comfort in the company of her friends.

The day dawned bright and clear, promising the perfect weather for a trip to the nearby rink. Excitement bubbled in the air as Quince, Jack, Luke, Trevor, and Cole gathered their gear, eager for a day of hockey practice. Connor joined them, his anticipation matching that of his friends as they prepared to hit the ice.

Meanwhile, Sage, Maelyn, Italy, and Vivian, Trevors Best Friend since childhood, eagerly tagged along, eager to support their friends and enjoy the spectacle of the practice. They arrived at the rink to find it bustling with activity, the sound of skates cutting through the ice and the thud of pucks echoing off the boards.

Sage watched with admiration as the guys took to the ice, their movements fluid and confident as they warmed up with a few laps around the rink. She couldn't help but feel a surge of pride as she cheered them on from the sidelines, her heart swelling with affection for Connor and his friends.

As the practice got underway, Sage found herself mesmerized by the skill and agility of the players, their passes crisp and precise as they maneuvered the puck with ease. She glanced over at Maelyn, Italy, and Vivian, who were all sitting beside her watching the boys too.

As the morning wore on, Connor caught sight of Sage watching from the sidelines, her eyes bright with excitement. A mischievous grin tugged at his lips as he skated over to her, his gaze filled with warmth and affection.

"Hey, want to join me on the ice?" he asked, holding out his hand in invitation. Sage's heart skipped a beat at the prospect, her nerves fluttering in anticipation.

"Are you sure?" she replied, her voice tinged with uncertainty. Connor nodded, his smile reassuring as he gently took her hand in his, leading her towards the entrance of the rink.

"Don't worry, I'll be right here with you," he murmured, his touch sending a jolt of warmth through her veins. With a deep breath, Sage slipped on the borrowed skates, her fingers trembling slightly as she stepped onto the ice.

Connor skated backwards, his movements graceful and fluid as he guided Sage across the smooth surface of the rink. She clung to his hand, her heart pounding in her chest as she struggled to find her balance.

But with Connor's steady presence beside her, Sage soon found her confidence growing, her nerves giving way to a sense of exhilaration and freedom. She laughed with delight as they glided across the ice together, the wind whipping through her hair as they picked up speed.

Meanwhile, Jack and Italy skated alongside each other, their laughter ringing out across the rink as they playfully raced each other to the other end. Maelyn, Trevor, and Vivian formed their own little group, offering encouragement and assistance to one another as they practiced their skating skills.

As the afternoon wore on, Sage found herself growing more comfortable on the ice, her initial nerves giving way to a sense of joy and exhilaration. With Connor by her side, she felt invincible, their laughter mingling with the sounds of the rink as they skated hand in hand.

There'll be happiness after me
But there was happiness because of me
Both of these things I believe
