Chapter 8: Simon's Birthday

Maddison's POV

Raven and I just got inside her car.

"How was the movie?" I ask curiously.

"It was fine. I'm not sure if you'll like it. Vicky didn't." She answer casually.

I couldn't help but stare on her lips while she spoke.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" She ask frowning just a little bit.

I had a feeling there is something more going on between them.

I think this confirms it.

"Sorry I didn't mean to stare but.. your lipstick. It's smudge." I say while pointing a finger.

She said they are only friends..

She look at herself on her rear-view mirror.

"Sh-t!" She curse quietly.

She immediately fix it and rub away the mess.

"Sorry. I was in a rush." She answer defensively.

Not that she needed to defend herself in any way.

I have no right to object even if they are together like that..

I clear my throat and try to sound casual as possible.

"It's okay. I'm sorry for stealing your time from Vicky." I apologise.

Maybe they are really dating but it might be a secret..

"You don't need to apologise. I wanted to do this. I want to buy a gift too." She answer.

She's still somewhat the same Ven that I knew.

Just a bit distant now compared to the past.

I wish I had not screwed things so badly.

Will we ever become friends again?

Is this just her attempt to be civil with me?

"What are you thinking right now?" Her voice brought me back from my stray thinking.

"Sorry, what?" I ask

"Where should we start looking?" She ask shyly.

Maybe she's embarrassed about me finding out about her relationship with Vicky.

"Simon is a big dinosaur enthusiast." I mentioned

"Oh cool.. I think I know just where to look." She answer smiling.

She brought me to a toy store. It was a big one at that.

"Wow, I didn't know we had something like this. It's really huge. Simon will totally have a blast if he is ever to find this."

"It's been here for about a year or two. It's relatively new. I think this is the best place to find a gift for your little brother."

I nodded in agreement.

She took my hand and led me inside the store.
