I stood tiredly on the assembly ground as the principal stood on the podium to give his boring announcements. He made several talks about punctuality, The English competition the SSS1 students will be participating and many more

"Oga proprietor, Time don reach when you go come down from that place oo"

The loud laughter of our classmates could be heard as a smile found a way to my face

That voice...

I needed no soothsayer to tell me it was Stephanie who made that remark. None of our classmates really liked the principal excluding Joan of course. But saying stuffs like this? I don't think I have such audacity. People like Gabriel, Sodiq and Stephanie don't really give a flying fuck. They say anything that comes to their mind without thinking it through. I admire their bravery though

Can never be me

I watched the girls rows with keen interest on how Stephanie was laughing every now and then

There was this radiating joy on her face that seemed to scream 'i have no worries. Happy is me!'

Stephanie had subsequently trailed behind me after I confronted Ifeanyi on the day he said those hurtful words to Gisselle. I wasn't one to engage in any fight or exchange of words with anyone. But when it comes to Gisselle, I wouldn't mind knocking out the tooth of that soul. She has enough troubles to handle for anyone to pick on her.

Stephanie had apologized on behalf of her best friend. Of which my anger subsided that minute cos why not? Her beautiful face was enough to melt a phyllite rock

"With that being said, Let's get to the main reason why I'm standing before you all this morning" The loud voice of Mr Edmund;the proprietor echoed through the walls of the hall

"The main reason why I'm standing before you all this morning is to inform you about the board of prefects nominations_"

The proprietor's speech was cut short by loud cheers and claps

I somehow knew he was going to make mention of this prefect thingy most of our classmates have been looking forward to

"Students will be nominated in the following categories; Head boy, Head girl, Sports prefect, Social perfect, Library... "

I was lost staring at Stephanie again. Gawwwwd how can someone be this beautiful. Like how???

"... Each category will receive three nominations. So I'm starting with the Head boy. The nominees are Olumide Vincent Lawal_"

The proprietor was interrupted with a round of applause that almost deafened me. Stephanie's applause was the loudest. She kept shouting "Vicky boo!". And Ifeanyi's smile was the broadest

The proprietor continued when the hall quietened with us still on our knees!

Gisselle, Joan and one other Science girl were nominated for the post of Head girl

I was nominated for Health prefect alongside two students I don't know from my class

And my Stephanie was nominated for Social prefect alongside Funmilayo and Esther

She's definitely going to win!

Ifeanyi was among the nominees for sport prefect alongside Gabriel and one other guy

"You students are expected to go to the library get the prefectship form and fill in the name of whoever you think is befitting of any post. Have a nice day!" The proprietor finally ended and descended from the podium and exited the hall
