LUCY POV

Going to the shops with your daughter was always a difficult task. Y/n was only 10. Her days were a whirlwind of excitement, exploration and unexpected detours. Y/n is a bright, imaginative child, but also struggles with her ADHD, a condition that often made the world feel like a carnival of distractions.

As you walked down the colourful isles of the supermarket, the air buzzed with chatter, the different scents filled your nose with happiness. It was a delight to you but to y/n it was a whirl wind of overstimulation.

"Oh my gosh mum, look at that." Y/n exclaimed tugging on your hand pointing towards the stack of cans that had been neatly stacked from the floor to the ceiling.

"Wow that's amazing" you reply sending her a small smile trying to keep up with your daughter. "Let keep moving y/n we need to grab all of our groceries as mummy's got work soon."

As you approach the fruit isle a smile forms across your face, this is your happy place. Fruit, fruit and more fruit. "Hey mum, can we get those strawberries. Oooo oooo and those balloons can I have one." Y/n words tumbling out one after another. Her attention darting from one attraction to the other.

"Y/n please try and focus for me baby." You gently remind your daughter "we need to stick to the shopping list."

Despite your best efforts the busy supermarket proved to be a constant test of patients and understanding. Y/n mind flitted from one thing to another, her impulses pulling her in every direction. You can start to notice the frustration and anxiety forming in your baby girl as she struggles to rein in her impulses.

You kneel down eye level with y/n taking her hand in yours and drawing small circles as comfort. "I know it's overwhelming sweetie, but we can handle this together. Let's take a deep breath and focus on one thing at a time."

Taking a deep breath y/n nods at your words showing understanding and determination. Half way through the shop you notice y/n getting restless. You notice a quiet spot near the clothes section. "Y/n how about we take a little break here? We can sit and enjoy the calm for a moment." With that you take a seat on the floor y/n following resting her head in your lap as she plays with the strings on your hoodie. Together you savoured the moment of peace, the tension gradually melting away.

"Thankyou for helping me today mummy." Y/n says breaking the silence.

"Anytime baby girl, we make a great team don't we." You reply with a smile full of love.
