Fight, and the ocean will respond. The Seers' words finally make sense, but that doesn't make acting on them any easier. As the countdown to the prophecy's end begins, Ande sets out to build an alliance that could offer a solution to the ocean's current crises. Her goal? To do what no one else has since the days of the eel Kels: Gather a thousand Kels who aren't killing each other, and sing the Unity Song together. The song whose lore says it can protect them, even from a god.

The problem? Nobody knows what the Unity Song even does. Nobody knows if it's how the eel Kels protected themselves, or if the two have anything to do with one another. After all, whatever protection Roshaska had from Andalua in the First Days didn't work a second time.

The one person who might offer further insight on the matter is trapped in Rapal, a city whose inhabitants might form the critical mass needed to make a thousand-Kel assembly. A city that will need to reject its current, illegitimate leader peacefully to save itself, let alone the ocean. With forces converging on every side, it's a time to pick friends and turn enemies into allies... and hope to every deity other than Andalua that the alliance will last long enough to ward off its own demise.
