Thoughts of running away crossed my mind as I was taken to the stage where I was gonna get married. But I simply didn't have the energy. I was done with all the crying for Surya and I had no more mental or physical energy to plan this out and then run away.

Instead, I just let them do what they needed. I let them doll me up like a little doll and put on all the heavy clothing and jewelry. Only thing that couldn't be fixed by makeup was the smile. I adorned a lifeless smile as I walked on stage.

I could see my mother getting emotional as she engulfed me in a gigantic hug. But no amount of hugs could comfort me the way one glance from Surya could. My Surya, my fiancé. The one I had planned a life with. The one I thought was my everything.

He wasn't here... Instead I was getting married to his twin brother. Huh, what a cheater I was. Wasn't even that long since Surya's death, but I had already run off to get married. He wouldn't be happy looking down at me from Heaven.

Struggling to control the tears, I walked up onto the stage and sat beside Suraj. With no other option, I followed the words of the priest, chanting the mantras while my mind was somewhere else.

Somewhere else where Surya was there. Where he was there with me, his arms wrapped around my body as I embraced him. In the comforting safety of his arms. But unfortunately, I was sitting, getting married to his twin.

Reality held me in a chokehold as I felt Suraj tying the nuptial chain around my neck. And the bright red vermillion taken as a pinch in between his fingers, smeared through the middle part of my hairline marked me as married.

Married, huh. I was still going to have the same mother and father in laws. Except I was Shivani Suraj, not Shivani Surya. And this time, there wasn't going to be a brother in law...Thoughts of running away crossed my mind as I was taken to the stage where I was gonna get married. But I simply didn't have the energy.
