Zayne administers the vitamin injection, but it causes a misunderstanding with a certain someone. What happens when ice meets fire?

Chapter 12: Fire and Ice

Zayne returns to his office five minutes later carrying a file and a thin blanket with him.

"The vitamin injection will be ready in about thirty minutes, you can just wait here for now," Zayne says, sitting down next to you on the sofa while offering the blanket. "Here, you can put this over your legs. It's rather chilly in here."

Your brows flit upwards in pleasant surprise. He must have noticed you shifting around and pulling your short dress down earlier.

"Oh, thanks," you say, taking the thin blanket from him and draping it over your legs. "Where did you get this from?"

"I asked one of my nurses to grab it from the laundry room," he replies.

You can't help but smile at him. "You're such an attentive doctor."

Zayne blinks and shifts his eye contact away from you. "I try to make my patients as comfortable as possible."

"By the way, um, how much is this vitamin injection?" you ask, almost forgetting about the cost of treatment with how worried you were about your condition.

"It's not too costly, don't worry. It's 300 D per shot, and besides, it can be covered by your health insurance."

"..."

"You do have health insurance.. right?"

"Haha. I don't," you reply nervously. "But it's alright, I'll pay upfront later on."

Zayne quirks his brow. "You should think about getting one."

"I should," you gulp, thinking about how this charge is going to Rafayel's bank account. You feel bad using his money for your medical condition that you haven't told him about. Well, he's going to find out about your chest pains sooner or later. Is there really no other way around this?

Zayne's expression remains steady and calm. In fact, he started asking you about which insurance companies you're planning to purchase from, to which you respond with a blank stare and a couple of confused murmurs.

"Um, I don't really know much about insurance," you lie after not recognizing all the insurance companies he mentioned (obviously).

Zayne lets out a gentle sigh. "As my patient, I would highly recommend you to start researching some options."

"Patient, huh? For a patient, I think I took a rather unusual route of booking an appointment with my doctor," you chuckle. "I texted my doctor directly instead of calling the hospital, as if he were my friend."

"Well, I am," Zayne says, musing at how quickly your eyes lit up.

"Did you just acknowledge me as your friend?" you hum.

"Yes, I did."

You grin widely, deciding to egg him on. "How come?"

Zayne clears his throat. "We have conversations over text about topics we are interested in, and I asked you to drop my title and simply refer to me as 'Zayne'. Is that enough to count someone as a friend?"

You can't help but giggle at him. The way he said all that with a straight face was too much for you.

"Did I say something strange?" he asks, confused.

"No, no, you're on track. Of course we're friends!" you smile. "I just wanted to see how you'd react."

"Why is it always like this?" he sighs, lightly putting a hand to his forehead.
