Notes:
Hi everyone, I'm back! I'm sorry for the hiatus, I had a lot of personal things to deal with and wanted to wait until I felt ready to continue this story again. Your comments have not gone unseen, I am very thankful to my readers who are asking about me and worrying about me, it made me happy and touched! Thank you so much for your patience. In the past few months, I didn't want to force myself to write because I felt like I would compromise the quality of the writing and I didn't want to produce something half-hearted. You guys deserve to read the best of my writing in its purest, most authentic form. This chapter is a heavy and difficult one to write too, so I took a lot of time changing the flow, dialogue, and all that. This chapter is particularly long, so I hope this makes up for the hiatus, enjoy it! I'll share more about what happened to me in the end notes! :)
Chapter summary:
You, Zayne, and Rafayel handle the police as they conclude their work at the crime scene at Whitesand Bay. Meanwhile, you and Rafayel have much to discuss with each other.
Chapter 16: Tangent Lines
You've had your fair share of crazy experiences in life, but you never thought there would come a day when you would have to explain to someone that you're a time-travelling woman from a whole other dimension.
The two men stare at you with anticipation as you slowly open your mouth, your mind frantically piecing together the right words to say. Well, there is no "right" word to say. No matter how you say it, it will sound downright unbelievable. Or perhaps they would believe you? After all, Rafayel did turn into a merman in front of your eyes. Surely dropping a comment that you're a time-traveller won't faze them, would it? As soon as you're about to say something, Zayne's eyes begin to grow hazy and his body starts to sway.
"Zayne?" you ask worriedly.
"I don't feel so good. I think I overexerted myself," he groans, eyebrows furrowing. "Call my colleague... Grey..son."
"Hey man, you're going to—fall!" Rafayel exclaims.
"Zayne!" you shout as you watch him collapse backwards into the sand with a thud. You hurriedly rush over to Zayne's side, and press a hand to his chest to feel for his heartbeat. It's beating rapidly.
"Shit!" you curse and fish for Zayne's phone in his pocket. You find it in his right pocket and immediately open it up. You see a few missed calls from a contact called 'Greyson' and frantically tap on the notification to call him back. As the phone dials, you press a hand on Zayne's forehead. It's abnormally hot.
"Zayne... I'm so sorry I got you into this mess," you say worriedly, continuing to press your cool palm against his forehead. You don't miss the way Rafayel's eye twitched at the contact.
"Hello? Doctor Zayne!" a voice erupts from the phone. "I've been trying to reach you!"
"H-Hello? Is this Doctor Greyson?" you exclaim.
"W-who is this?" Greyson asks, sounding unsure.
"This is Marin, I'm Doctor Zayne's friend and patient."
"O-oh, Marin! I've heard of you before! N-Nevermind that! Where is Doctor Zayne?!"
"That's why I'm calling, I'm at the beach at Whitesand Bay and he just collapsed. I need your help!"
"Collapsed?! What happened? I just picked up a friend of his called Thomas that also collapsed!"
"It's a long story, but there was an assault and kidnapping of our friend, so yeah, we had to go and rescue him," you explained while scratching your jaw.
