Hinata began practicing a lot after Sasuke left the village. She wanted to be strong enough to help Naruto when he went after Sasuke.
She wanted to be seen as an equal to all the strong genin and chounin. She practiced as hard as she could so she could be considered strong herself and hoped that Naruto would notice her strength.
