this is a heavily requested sequel to my oneshot 'rescue' posted 28/11/22 so um...sorry it's so late? 😭 originally, it wasn't going to have a sequel but after some consideration i think i've come up with a much happier alternative ending 🥰

i would very much suggest reading 'rescue' BEFORE proceeding with this update so you can understand this plot better❤️

even though it was currently 'dessert day' at the station, a day that was a widely appreciated pick me up for the firefighters, minho couldn't quite share in his other coworkers' sentiment.

not when the event fell exactly five days since the unexpected saving of his ex-boyfriend as of three years ago.

minho had barely noticed one of the junior firefighters had walked in- too busy staring into space with an untouched muffin still in his hands.

"hey, minho?"

immediately, the deputy chief raised his head, having been snapped out of his thoughts as he gave a small clear of his throat and a nod.

"everything alright?" soobeom asked as he carefully sat beside minho and gestured around the room at the other firefighters tucking into their second or third desserts. "i've noticed you're the only one who isn't really celebrating our fortnightly tradition." he attempted to lighten the mood as he then gave a small bump to his shoulder.

"yeah...." minho huffed, deciding to place the muffin down on the table in front of where he was sitting. "i guess there's just been a lot on my mind."

shuffling slightly, the junior took a moment before speaking again.

"...is it because last week was one of your first missions out in years?"

minho gave a light sigh as he nodded his head.

just before either of them could speak again, their attention was brought to a sudden thump of boots. as they looked up, they saw that the firefighters around them were now all faced towards the door where their chief fire officer now stood.

after he had politely urged them to continue what they were doing, he looked around the room before his eyes found minho.

"lee," though his tone gave nothing away, minho swore he could see a bittersweet smile as he gestured behind him. "there's someone here to see you. i've told them to wait in your office."

"oh...yes, sir." minho nodded, pushing himself to his feet before he walked towards the chief.

his suspicions of who it could be appeared to be more and more likely as chan placed a gentle hand on his shoulder to then allow him to head down the corridor.

just as he reached his office, minho stopped and peeked his head around the door, immediately feeling how his heart picked up its pace in his chest.

currently stood in front of him was none other than jisung.

the younger hadn't seem him yet, too busy looking around the bookshelves and framed pictures on the wall.

when he'd turned back towards the desk to look at a picture of minho on his first day on the job, his eyes met minho's and he suddenly jumped causing the picture to fall which he quickly scrambled to pick back up before he took a small step away and moved his eyes to the floor.

"s-sorry," he whispered, slightly clearing his throat before he found the confidence to look back up at minho who had now walked into his office and closed the door over behind him.
