fourth of july, a patriotic day
it's a big deal for some
but i am a mexican immigrant so it has always just been
"el dia de los cohetes"
but that one fourth of july wasn't special or exciting
it was rather something that changed my life
i will always remember this day as the day my life truly switched into a different thing
the day i lost my only friend,
i was always told the most painful form of heartbreak was breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend,
but that fourth of july i realized that losing a friend was even more painful
5 years worth of knowing eachother down the drain
you decided to make your own choices and go with somebody you met 3 months ago
somebody who you know consider your bestfriend
but ill never forget how i was always there
it's my fault for being too attached to you
for hoping that we would be friends for life
but ever since that happened,
everytime i attend the firework shows on the warm july night at the beach
i think of you and your face
and now, two years after i will see you again in a warm late july day
