Jiang Yanli walked up to Jiang Cheng, wrapping her arms around his waist in a hug as Jiang Cheng's shoulders engulfed her smaller figure. Wei Wuxian flinched when Jiang Yanli reached out to clutch his hand in hers and smiled softly at him over Jiang Cheng's shoulder. He nodded to her and they departed.
Subian lifted Wei Wuxian into the air as he focused on his breathing and willed down the resentful energy that began to curl around his wrist in comfort. Wei Wuxian looked back to his Shijie once more as they began their flight.
Their flight to Gusu.
Here the story begins once more. And this time... Wei Wuxian will make sure to change their future!
-----------------
He winced as the scarred muscles of his back pulled taut when he scrambled up the wall. The wards seemed weaker than last time when he broke them. Was it that he was more experienced or that they had been so weakly guarded last time as well? His memory didn't serve him right, perhaps.
Putting Suibian against the crosstiles as a wedge, Wei Wuxian cradled the jars of Emperor's Smile to his chest and swung himself over. He sighed and reclined against the tiles. Would Lan Wangji come out to greet him again this time?
Wei Wuxian shrugged to himself and untied a jar, leaning back onto his forearms and tipping the contents of the jar into his mouth. He sighed in satisfaction at the familiar burn down his throat and wiped his chin with the back of a close-sleeved hand. The heat of the liquor always helped prevent the cold around his bones from creeping into the marrow.
"Lan Zhan better show up," he grumbled out loud, "I might just decide to serenade the Cloud Recesses with Chenqing otherwise… heh, there's probably a rule against that up on that wall somewhere."
"Wei Ying." Wei Wuxian stilled, a warm feeling filling his gut. "Wei Ying may do as he wishes."
Wei Wuxian tilted his chin up to look at the Lan sect disciple in front of him. White robes billowed in the wind. The ribbon that the lans held so sacred was dancing in the night air and Wei Wuxian felt the temptation to pull at it once again. At his waist was the famous sword, Bichen. When golden eyes locked onto his, Wei Wuxian felt that he was falling into a deep, amber abyss the same way as he had so many years ago on the very same rooftop.
"Lan Zhan." Did his voice sound as raw as his throat felt?
Lan Wangji didn't reply as was characteristic of him. In an elegant movement, the Second Young Master Lan seated himself next to Wei Wuxian.
"Does Wei Ying wish to serenade Cloud Recesses?" Was that mischief shining in his eyes? "Cloud Recesses would be blessed to hear Wei Ying's music."
Wei Wuxian scrambled back, eyes wide and hands over his face in an attempt to hide the flustered blush rising over his cheeks even though it wouldn't be quite as visible in the dark.
"Lan Zhan! Who taught you to flatter someone like this! You should never say such things with a straight face, Lan-er-gege!"
"Not flattery." Lan Wangji's ears appeared to be dusted red under the moonlight. "Flattery suggests insincerity. Wangji's words are the truth."
