Contract (A Jenlisa Adaptation)

Lies

"Don't repeat it Lisa,"

Lisa didn't even try to say anything, how could she? What do you even say in moments like this?

She stood in front of Mr. Kimwho was seated in one of the office couches.

She had gone to work for a couple hours to make sure everything was good with business before coming straight to see Mr. Kim. Luckily, Mrs. Kim was out grocery shopping. They had made their way into Mr. Kim's study where there was nothing but silence. If Lisa didn't know any better she knew that Mr. Kim already knew what she was going to say. Dr. Winston didn't have to tell him anything.

"You haven't been feeling well have you?" Lisa asked, already knowing the answer.

Mr. Kim let out a low sigh, "My wife knows…you know I think she's finally coming to terms with it. Jennie on the other hand…This will destroy her."

"I know," Lisa almost whispered, her heart breaking for Jennie.

"I just want to know one thing," Mr. Kim said, "How long do I have?"

"6 months top with medication," Lisa said softly.

Mr. Kim chuckled, "Come on Lisa, you know I don't do medication. How long do I really have?"

"Maybe 3 or 4."

Mr. Kim chuckled but it slowly died down and he let out a defeated sigh, "Life is a bitch…take care of her will you? Promise me you will."

"Of course," Lisa said almost too quickly.

"And she can't know about this."

Lisa frowned, "She has the right to know, she'll want to stand by you!"

"It's my choice."

"She will hate me."

Mr. Kim chuckled once again, "There's a fine line between love and hate."

"She has the right to know," Lisa repeated, "I've kept enough from her already."

Mr. Kim shook his head, "These next few month have to go on as normal, I want to look at her and see her happy. You know ever since she married you she's been really happy, the happiest I've seen her actually. And that's the way I want to continue to see her…If she finds out then every time I look into her eyes all I will see is grief and I don't want that. I know I am being selfish with Lisa, but she can't know."

Lisa nodded slightly, "As you wish."

"Thank you," Mr. Kim said quietly, "Thank you for helping with everything. John would have been proud of you."

Lisa didn't say anything on that.

"Though I know you don't care," Mr. Kim began, "I also have to apologize to you…I saw how he treated you and I never stopped him, I never told him anything. All I did was watch him make mistakes with you and made sure that I didn't make them with my own. And for that I am sorry."

Lisa clenched her jaw, "I don't think this is a conversation we should have at all, or ever."

Mr. Kim just nodded.

Before either of them could comment they clearly heard the front door open, they figured it must be Mrs. Kim…boy they were wrong.

"Dad?"

Lisa felt a little panic rise but remained composed, not breaking eye contact with Mr. Kim.

"In here honey!" Mr. Kim called out.

Soon enough Jennie entered the office with Leo in her arms. However she stopped as soon as she saw Lisa and her father.

"Lis…what are you doing here?" Jennie frowned, this was odd.

"Uh I came to see how your father was doing," Lisa said with one last look at Mr. Kim, "The doctors called, said he was improving. He is one healthy man."

The lie burned Lisa's mouth as it came out.

Mr. Kim smiled at Jennie, "We both wanted to give you the good news."

"Dad that's amazing news," Jennie said as the biggest smile broke out on her face.

"Now let me see that kid of yours. I have to admit I've missed him," Mr. Kim said with a smile.

Jennie let out a laugh and made her way over to her dad and handed him Leo. Leo already familiarized with Mr. Kim happily went with him. Lisa notice how Mr. Kim referred to Leo as their child, Jennie didn't seem to mind and honestly neither did she. Perhaps it was time to take the next step with Leo.

Jennie made her way over to Lisa and wrapped her arms around her giving a kiss on the cheek, "I'm so glad to see you."

Lisa smiled, "Me too."

She watched as Jennie turned her attention to her dad and Leo and how she giggled at how goofy her dad was with him. Jennie finally seemed happy with her, she had finally managed to make her happy. But now, it was only a matter of time before it was taken all away.

Lisa took a deep breath and placed a kiss on the side of Jennie's head. She was not ready for was about to happen.
