~Chapter 22~

{Shinya's POV}
Akane hasn't visited me. Its been 5 days. I thought staring at the closed door. She might have been caught by Elle but she probably just got a smack on the hand and was told to stay away from me. Good thing I get released in a few days. I just really want to see her.I stared at the door and my eyes seemed to get heavier every second. I rested my hands on my chest and welcomed sleep.

I stand at the factory looking at the speeding truck driving down the grain surrounded road. Akane is clinging to the side of the vehicle and there is a loud bang. The truck skids to its side and Akane goes flying. She hits the ground with a thud. I started to run to her but it seemed I wasn't getting any closer to her. I watch as Makakishima climbed out of the cab of the truck. My stomach plunges as he grabs what appears to be my gun and steps on Akanes head. There's a loud bang.
He drops the gun says something that I can't hear and begins to take a trail through the hyper oat field. I make my way to Akane who lays motionless on the ground. She's laying in a pool of blood... Her blood. I dropped to my knees and brushed her hair out of her face. Her corpse was still warm. I had this strange feeling in my eyes. I was crying. An action I had long forgotten. The warm tears forced themselves down my cheeks. I cupped my hands on Akane's cheeks and kissed her forehead. My breathing hitched and my nose ran. I wiped away my tears and scooped Akane up in my arms leaving her unlocked dominator and my gun on the ground. I walked her to the main road and laid her limp body down gently. My sadness turned into anger as I thought of how Makashima had ruined my life. All hope for a happy future was now destroyed. I stood up and ran to my gun, I reloaded it and ran after him

I jerked awake. It was just a nightmare, I thought to myself rubbing my eyes and looking around the room. "You alright?" A nurse said. I flinched in surprise "Yeah just a bad dream" I said realizing she was standing at the heart monitor. "Oh sorry I didn't mean to scare you" she said writing down something on a chart. "Your heart rate was really high so I was paged to check on you, but it seems you are alright" she said smiling. "Sorry to inconvenience you" I said running my hand through my hair trying to shake off the dream. "Oh no worries I also came to release you, the only catch is you won't be able to do fitness for a few weeks and you will do some extra cleaning shifts" she said removing the IV from my arm and peeled off the stickers attached to cords that were connected to the heart monitor, she turned it off and silenced the steady beeping. "Here's a clean uniform, so I will leave you to it" she said setting a bag of clothes at the end of the bed. "Thanks" I said to her. "Mhm" she said as she walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. I changed and slowly and painfully walked to my room hoping to see Akane.
I pulled out my card and unlocked the door. It opened with a squeek. It was dark in the room so I quietly walked over to the lamp on the desk and flipped it on trying not to wake Akane . The soft yellow light filled the room. I looked at the clock on the desk, 4:50 am it said in bright blue numbers. I looked towards the bunk beds expecting to see Akane curled up in a ball sleeping on her bed, but she wasn't there. There was no one in the bathroom either. Huh she should be here sleeping like a reasonable person, I thought looking on my bed to see if she was up there. She isn't here I thought as I felt suspicion and curiosity surge in my brain. But there was another feeling squeezing my stomach; worry.
I was too tired to climb onto my bed so I laid down on Akane's. Her clean smell invaded my nostrils. I smiled and took in the aroma.
I was rudely awakened by the shrill sound of the alarm. I painfully got out of bed and silenced it. The clock read 7 am so I took a shower. I peeled off my wet bandages and put on new ones that the nurse had provided. I walked down to the cafeteria and got my breakfast. I scanned the room looking for Akane who was nowhere in sight. I finished up and headed outside. I sat down on the bench and pulled out a cigarette and lit it. "Where the hell could she have gone?" I said out loud taking a drag and scratching my head.
I looked at the door to the base as it opened. Cassy walked out with a coat slung over her shoulder. Once she saw me she smiled sheepishly and awkwardly walked towards me. As she walked she pulled her coat on and rubbed her hands together.
"Is this seat taken?" She asked pointing at the empty space next to me that Akane was supposed to be sitting in. "Nope" I said finishing off my cigarette. I rubbed the bud into its designated ash tray. She sat down and looked at the sky. "Man it's cold, holy cow I wasn't ready for it to get this cold this fast" she said brushing her long white hair out of her face. Makashimas face flashed in my head for a second but I quickly rid his face with the memory of me blowing his brains out. I snapped out of my thoughts. "Meh, I like the cold so I don't really notice" I said coming off cold like I did to anyone who hadn't earned my emotions. "while we are talking I wanted to thank you for saving my life and all" I said sighing and resting my hands on the back of my head. "You're welcome" she said looking around. "Hey where's Akane?" She said looking down the trail. "No idea" I said casually, "I haven't seen her in a week, and you're not even worried. I clearly read you two wrong, because you have absolutely no feelings for her!" She said standing up. "Hold up, when is my relationship status with Akane any of your business? And I am worried about her, okay? I just know that if I panic it will just make things worse and whoever is behind this is probably waiting for my reaction." I said, I paused and took a breath "It kills me to know that Akane isn't safe but I can't risk making things worse, we will just have to keep an eye out for anything strange and hope she will be alright" I said looking into Cassys eyes. "Hope? Hope she's alright? And what if she isn't? What if her body is found cut up into pieces and flushed into the sewer?" She said mad. "Wait did you say cut up into pieces and flushed into the sewer? Like what happened to those gamers? How long have you been following mine and Akane's lives?" I asked standing. "I-well- uh- you see Elle asked me to sort of maybe watch your life... not Akane's. Just yours." she said fiddling with her thumbs. "How long?" I asked again. "7 years" she said rubbing the back of her head. "I was 14 at the time and Elle ordered me to watch your work and so I studied every case you did and followed your history till now..." she said wanting out of this situation. "So ever since I became and enforcer you've been following my life, that's awesome, and when I was in America how did you track me then?" I face palmed myself and realized I had joined the military and they kept my files there. "You know what scratch that" I said sitting back down. "Look I'm sorry for invading your privacy, the more I learned about you the more I admired you" she said blushing. "So when I heard that Elle was recruiting Ginoza I knew it's was only a matter of time before I could meet you" she said sitting next to me. "Great, you've met me. Now what? Are you going to try and kill me, or do you have some other thing you wanted with me?" I asked. "Well, no. I'm not going to do anything to you. I thought we could just be friends,but it's looking pretty glum now that you know I've been stalking you" she said. "It wasn't like I had a choice. I'm an orphan. There was this accident when my family was visiting Japan a while back and their hues clouded, that is all for mine. I somehow managed to keep it clear as I watched my mother, father and brother get blown to pieces" she said with a horrified expression, " I wondered the streets, blood splattered on my clothes and face. And that's when I met Elle, she offered me a place to live and a way to avenge my families death. Being a naïve 13 year old I accepted her offer, little did I know she would hold my survival over my head and force me to follow your life" she rubbed the back of her head "So I'm sorry for that, truly I am. But now that I am a capable adult I was planing on leaving to the British rebellion, but Elle forced me on a mission with you forcing me to have to come back" she said staring off into the distance "I wanted to make my peace with you and Akane before I left" she said. "But Akane is nowhere to be found and you think I'm a total creep" she said raising her arms into an exasperated shrug. "I don't think you're the creep. If Elle wanted you to do it than she is the creep" I said stuffing my hands into my pocket. "Do you think she's behind Akane's disappearance?" I asked. "Yes I do" she said bluntly. "And why is that?" I asked curiously. "I over heard her saying how Akane was going to mess up all her future plans for you" she said. "okay that's creepy, but I wonder what plans she has for me" I said shifting my hands in my pockets. "Well I will help you keep an eye out for Akane. That's the least I can do." she said standing up again. "I should be going. Fitness is about to start" she said walking away. I sat there and looked at the gray sky.
I stood up and made my way to the secondary base. I sat at another bench and watched people run.
Elle walked towards me. "Hey" she said smiling, "Hi" I said bluntly as I continued to watch the people run. "So I have an errand I need you to run, if you wouldn't mind" she said brushing her bluish purple hair out of her face. "What is it?" I asked. "I need you to please go into the secondary bases basement and retrieve the clay birdies for our shooting practice. If you wouldn't mind" she said smiling. "Sure" I said standing, I walked past her, into the building.
I took the stairs two at a time down to the basement, the temperature seemed to drastically change once I hit the last step. Weird I thought looking around the dark hallway. I opened the what looked like the storage closet and grabbed the bag of clay frisbees.
"Excuse me, what are you doing down here?!" A frantic voice practically screamed at me. I turned around to see a boy who looked like Kagari. He had a very angry expression on his face. "I'm getting the clay birdies for shooting practice...? Elle told me to get them" I said confused at his anger. "Oh sorry" he said rubbing his head. "I'm Asumi" he said holding his hand out for me to shake it. I switched the bag of birdies to my other hand and I shook his hand. " I'm Shinya" I said giving his hand a firm shake. I released it and let my arm hang to my side, ready for what ever this guy was going to do. "The Shinya Kogami?" He said smiling and giggling like a 10 year old. "So you've heard of me..." I said scratching my head. "That would be an understatement" he said in a macabre tone. " I should be going" I said taking a step. He moved to block my way out. "I'm not done talking to you" he said. " Alright, what do you want to talk to me about?" I said getting impatient. "Your precious Akane of course" he said smiling smugly. I dropped the bag of birdies and grabbed the collar of his shirt. "What do you know about Akane?!" I said in between my teeth. "Easy there" he said putting his hand on my arm. "She's not hurt.... Well physically that is" he said letting out a small laugh. "Where is she?" I said bashing him against the wall, I could fell my stitches scream in protest. "She's in the basement of a cabin deeper in the forest, about a mile and a half away from here" he said gasping for air. "How do I know you're telling the truth?" I said. "You don't" he said laughing. I let go of him and let him fall to the ground. He gasped for air and stood. I turned around and picked up the birdies. Asumi stood there with a smug smile in his face. I dropped the bag again and broke his neck. His limp body fell to the ground with a thud. I left the basement and went back outside to Elle. "Here are those birdies you asked for" I said handing them to her. "Thanks" she said handing them off to another person. "I have to use the John" I said walking off.
I went into the thick forest headed further in like Asumi said, if he was wrong then it would have been a waste of a walk hit if he was right then I could save Akane.
My body ached in protest as I climbed over and through the thick bushes. But the further I went in it seemed like the bushes got thinner and I could walk normally. "Huh I must be getting closer" I said looking around me. I broke out off the forest and into a clearing with a small cabin. It was erie and looked abandoned. I quickly walked to and pulled on the door. With a very loud creek it swung open. I searched the walls for a light switch but came up with nothing. I pulled out my lighter and used it like a flashlight. I took a few steps further inside and looked for the opening to the down stairs. On the far right of the room I found a door. I pulled on it. It was locked. I prepared my weekend body for the impact of the door. I angled my shoulder to the door and gave it a hard bash. It popped open almost flinging me down the fight of stairs. I regained my balance and looked around the room. I had lost my lighter so I blindly hugged the wall searing for a switch and I did. I flipped it and light lit the room and burned my eyes. My eyes adjusted to the room and I was shocked to see what I saw in the middle of the room.
"Akane?!" I yelled running up to her. Her eyes were blood shot and she stared at the wall in front of her. Not even noticing me. I stood in front of her and lightly pat her cheeks. Her gaze focused on me and tears formed in her eyes. But her sadness turned into anger. "YOU KILLED YUKI" she screamed.
