The Lil' Training Officer

The Night General

Brooke lets out a little whine when the sound of her phone ringing punctures her sleep. 

"I got it" Tim grumbles, sitting up and grabbing Brooke's phone. 

"what'd you do?" Tim asks over the phone.

"who is it?" Brooke murmurs.

"Nolan" Tim responds before turning his attention back to the phone.

"we just arrested Jackson's landlord" Nolan responds.

"why?" Tim asks. 

"we caught him dealing drugs" Nolan answers.

"and why did you call my girlfriend?" Tim questions. 

"j-just updating her, sir" Nolan stutters out. 

"and you thought that my very pregnant girlfriend would care about some sleazy landlord you just arrested at 1 am?" Tim asks.

"w-well, um... I'm sorry, sir" Nolan rambles out an apology.

"I'd hope so" Tim says before hanging up the phone. 

"what happened?" Brooke yawns. 

"they arrested West's landlord for dealing drugs" Tim responds, laying back down. 

"mmm, that's gonna be a thing in the morning" Brooke hums. 

"yeah" Tim sighs as he gets comfortable in bed. 

"w-wait, before you fall asleep, I have to go pee" Brooke admits. 

"alright" Tim groans as he gets out of bed and walks over to her side so he can help her over to the toilet. 

[Time Skip]

"I think this really keeps the romance alive" Brooke comments, sarcastically, as Tim watches her go pee. 

"something like that" Tim answers. 

"you don't have to be so snappy about it" Brooke remarks. 

"no, it's not you" Tim sighs. 

"what is it?" Brooke frowns. 

"just-... stressed" Tim responds.

"about being a dad?" Brooke guesses.

She knows about his dad and about his childhood, knows how it affects him every single day. 

"what if I screw it up?" Tim asks.

"you probably will, I definitely will" Brooke murmurs. "but we'll fix every screw up"

"and what if I'm like my dad?" Tim questions, sitting down on the floor in front of her on the toilet. 

"you can't be" Brooke replies. "parents mess up all of the time, they make accidental mistakes, but what you're dad did, that's not accidental" 

"but-" Tim starts.

"and I won't let you become like your dad" Brooke interrupts. 

Tim looks up at her with something undetectable in his eyes before he leans upwards and gently kisses her. 

"I think the toilet is a lot more romantic than you make it out to be" Tim murmurs before standing up to help her back to bed.

[Time Skip]

"You ever heard of a Night General?" Grey asks as he leads Brooke and Nolan into his office.

"No, sir." Nolan answers.

"Night General Detectives respond to major crime scenes after normal business hours and they work until it's assigned to a day detective. They have to know how to handle everything because they see everything" Brooke explains.
