"What?" Reyansh yelled in confusion.

"Calm down Rey. She said she wanted to stay,I asked her as what? So she said she's fine working in the house." Rati said like it was a no big deal.

"Mom, are you out of your mind?" He asked and by then all the family members came out of their rooms.

"What is the matter with you?" Rati asked, clearly annoyed at her son's reaction.

"The matter with me is that I had specifically asked you to send the girl back home and you kept her as a maid." He replied.

"So what? I asked her to move out,she didn't. I did what I thought was good." Rati said.

"What is good in this? Three weeks. Since three weeks I thought that the girl who got married to me is safely at her own place, but the truth is completely different." He said with frustration.

"So what? Don't tell me you've started caring about her or are you actually considering this marriage worth something?" Rati said, annoyance still visible in her tone.

"No mom. I don't care about her. Hell I don't even know her,but as far as my values go,you're the one who taught me to not be disrespectful and harsh to anyone." Reyansh said and something shook inside Rati.

Maybe the stone cold hatred for Chandni or the hurt of being disrespected by everyone, but it was something.

As they were speaking, Chandni came with a tray in her hand having a teacup on it.

"And how did you agree to such arrangement? Don't you care about yourself or you lack so much of self respect?" Reyansh yelled to which Chandni visibly flinched and stepped back, which brought Reyansh out of his angry zone.

"Chandni, give him the tea and come to my room." Vinita said, looking at the girl with nothing but sympathy in her eyes.

Chandni just quickly forwarded the tray and as much as Reyansh wished he could bang the cup on the floor,he didn't.
Because one thing that his grandmother always taught him was, that food should never be disrespected.

He took the cup and Chandni rushed to the kitchen to keep the tray there.

"And Reyansh, how about you go to office today?" Vinita said.

"But maa...he just came today..." Rati tried to reason.

"Yeah, but go to the office Reyansh." Vinita said and Reyansh just agreed to it.
Finishing the cup of tea,he went to his room to change his clothes, while Rati went to her room, her mind full of what just unfolded.

Chandni, spotting that nobody is present in the living room quickly went to Vinita's room.

She knocked the door and went inside upon being said so.

"What can do for you ma'am?" Chandni asked and something pained inside the old woman.

"How about you call me Dadi?" She said, her eyes full of hope.

"You know that Devika ma'am and Devyansh sir won't like it. Now that Reyansh sir is back, it's just addition to the number of people who won't like it." Chandni replied with a tiny smile.

It was fake. Chandni knew it and so did Vinita, but she didn't question it.
She trusts her grandson enough to know that he will give Chandni a chance, now that they both are going to be under one roof.

"I'll do one thing,I'll massage your feet." Chandni said as she took the oil from the side table.

Vinita was sitting on her bed,her legs straight. Chandni just kept a old bedsheet beneath and started massaging her feet with oil.

"Do you want to go back to your Chachi?" Vinita asked and all of a sudden Chandni stilled.

She had never thought about it. Now that she was working here and was treated with atleast a little dignity, she never thought that she might have to go back.

"Why do you ask?" Chandni replied,as she continued.

"Nothing. Just a question." Vinita replied, acting casually, but deep down she knew that something is wrong.

The way Chandni flinched at any loud voice or stutters while talking to anyone who's angry didn't go unnoticed by her. And the pause she took right now, anyone could understand that something is there, she just didn't know what it is.

"Enough dear,I'm fine now." Vinita said with a small smile which Chandni tried to reciprocate.

She then placed the oil bottle and the bedsheet back, washed her hands and asked, "Can I go then? I need to prepare the lunch."

Vinita just nodded in response and Chandni went to the kitchen to prepare the lunch.

Here, Reyansh was in his car. His grandmother asked him to go to the office, but for all he knew,he needed space.
Coming back home from business was supposed to give him peace, instead it filled him with an unknown guilt.

He left the house, trusting his mom to handle the situation, which she did, but clearly the wrong way.

His mind always processed things as right and wrong, sometimes somewhere in between, but at this point,he knew it was wrong.

Chandni wasn't supposed to be at his place when he came back today, that was not what he had expected his home to look like.

All he knew back there was that his mother managed to convince Chandni and her family for annulment and they would sign the papers once he came back, but the scene was totally different.

As far as he understood, Chandni might be the same age as Devika and the fact that his family felt nothing making her work as maid, angered him.

To add to that,he didn't really understand how Chandni could agree to such an arrangement.
Any person with a little ounce of self respect would decline to such a thing but she agreed.

And the way she flinched, when he yelled at her, made him think.
Before the wedding,he had very rarely met her,not to mention,he wouldn't even have know about her,if he didn't go to the kitchen that day at her house.

He knew she was a polite girl and as much as he was angry at her to plot so much against him,he knew it would be stupid to punish her or anyone from her family, but his mom didn't share the same views.

Now that he thought of it, he wondered was she even a part of the plot or not.
