It was mid afternoon by the time Reece arrived home. Marjorie was feeling well rested after spending the morning catching up on some sleep after Siobhan left. The last 2 months had been hard on both her and Reece. Once they'd established more of a routine after Reece had been back at work for a few weeks, it got easier, but one of them was still up every few hours for the night feeds. She'd woken up from her nap and had just sat on the sofa with a coffee when Reece walked in. She got up to help him with the twins in the pram and a load of shopping bags. Once the front door was shut, she turned to give him a hug.
"Hey gorgeous, how did it go with Siobhan? What was she so upset about?" Reece asked.
"Don't even," Marjorie started. "Siobhan told Viv exactly how she feels and the thing she was so upset about.... Viv said she felt the same."
Reece looked confused. He was desperately trying to make sense of what she'd just told him. "Nope, not computing. Run that by me again?"
"Exactly!!! She got scared essentially when she realised Viv felt the same and so then said she needed time to think."
"Someone needs to bang their heads together!"
"It's fine. After our talk this morning, Siobhan rang Viv, and they're going for lunch today. They should be there now as a matter of fact."
Reece looked at her. "And you're here? I'm surprised you aren't hiding behind a newspaper at the next table spying on them."
Marjorie glared at Reece as a look of outrage crossed her face. She suddenly went slightly sheepish. "I did think about it, but I was missing these two, so I didn't want to leave until you got back."
Reece chuckled at his fiancé, leaning in to kiss her. "I love that you care so much, but I and I'm betting Siobhan and Viv as well, are very glad you decided to stay here instead."
"Anyway, how was your morning with Carly, my love?"
Reece groaned as he walked away to flop down on the sofa. "Don't get me wrong, she's great with these two. You can tell she absolutely adores them and they are so calm around her, she just dotes on them."
"Why do I sense a but coming on?"
"First she wanted me to buy her breakfast, then we got dragged around every clothes shop you can think of to look for all the things she 'needs'. Then it was makeup. She insisted on telling me about every product she looked at. She also had to tell me about all of the things you and the babies 'needed' too. Then it was time for me to buy her lunch."
Marjorie was laughing at the exasperated look on Reece's face. "So, are you now the fountain of knowledge on all the things a teenage girl 'needs'?"
He let out a sigh, "No, I lost interest very quickly. I did that, doe eyed, smile, and nod thing you do when you aren't listening to me talk about the stars." He said with a smirk. "It really works. She had no idea."
"What are you talking about? I don't do that!!" Marjorie gasped. She was sure he didn't know about that.
"Yes, you do, and it's fine. I don't mind. It's cute that you just let me go on. You can tell me to shut up, though. I won't be offended." He laughed, pulling her in close for a cuddle.
"In my defence, it's not because I don't want to hear it. It's that I'm not following and don't want to admit I'm lost." She admitted sheepishly, burying her face in his chest as she blushed.
He smiled and placed a gentle kiss on her head. "Now it's even cuter."
The family of four had a fairly chilled couple of hours in their little bubble until Reece's phone went off, signalling a text:
Aut the Goblin: Big Brother. You've had the paperwork for the merger for over 6 weeks now. I know the twins keep you busy, but I really need you to look through it all properly so we can call a board meeting and make a decision. We're close to sorting out the Marjorie situation, and I want us to be able to move swiftly once it's sorted.
Reece: OK, I'll do it now.
He kissed Marjorie as he gently signalled for her to move from where she was leaning into him, both of the twins cuddled between them asleep. "Sorry, gorgeous. That was Aut. She says I need to look through that paperwork for the merger. I've been putting it off so I could focus on you three, but I'm going to need to put the time into it now."
"That's OK, my love. We can just stay here and keep you company while you do, we don't mind, do we?" She mumbled quietly to the two sleeping babies. Reece carefully leant over to grab the folders that contained all the paperwork. It had been sitting on the coffee table untouched since Autumn had given it to him. He led back down as the twins and Marjorie settled back down, leaning on his chest. He started looking through all of it to work out the next steps.
Marjorie had handled everything with the twins while Reece poured over the paperwork. He stopped to make them dinner but then went straight back to it after cleaning up while Marjorie took the twins upstairs to put them to bed. He had to give Autumn credit. She was very thorough and had covered most bases with what she'd provided. He'd started making notes in the margins of things he thought of that she hadn't mentioned and some questions he had. Now he'd got further through it, the various pieces of paper were strewn over the coffee table as he perched on the edge of the sofa pouring over them and referring back to sheets he'd already read to check details. Marjorie had sat next to him, watching for a while. She could see the tension across his body as he sat hunched over the table. Eventually, she placed her hand on his thigh in an attempt to get his attention.
"Darling? I'm going for a shower. You could always join me?"
"OK." he replied, without looking round.
She slid her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek. He turned his head to meet her lips. "Give me a few minutes and come join me, yea?" She asked him again. "You need to relax a little."
"Mmhm, I'll see you in a bit." He muttered between kisses. She sighed as she got up to walk upstairs, shaking her head as she watched him return to the pages of information in front of him. She hoped he'd heard her but as she watched him, she didn't think he had.
