On the third day, out of a thousand people, only two hundred made it to the third test — a number that was neither high nor low, but yet better than the past few years.
To ensure the test remained challenging, Luo Bingyu added a twist. Rather than having each examinee only navigate through a forest filled with beasts as quickly as possible, they would also be given a silver badge at the beginning. Their task would be to gain as many badges while also keeping them safe from the other examinees.
Accomplishing this task alone would be incredibly difficult for anyone who just started cultivation, so they were also given the freedom to decide if they wanted to form a group to tackle it. There were no restrictions on how to acquire the badges, but if they didn't submit at least ten of them by the end of the sixth day, they would be automatically disqualified.
There would be no second chance to appeal.
Despite everything, losing all their silver badges didn't necessarily mean that it was the end. They just had to start over from scratch.
After a day had passed, ten disciples at Late-stage Foundation Establishment would enter the forest, where they could be challenged by groups of any size. As long as they were defeated, the examinees would receive a gold badge from them. And a gold badge had a value equivalent to ten silver badges.
...
As Xie Junmo and Han Weisheng reached the portal gate for the third test, they found themselves surrounded by a swarm of people who desperately sought to join their group. After the events yesterday, a number of people had recognised their formidable talents and offered to accept them into their team.
However, since they had no interest in forming a team with random people, they rejected every single one.
As they had discussed last night, Pei Yufeng, Xie Junmo, and Han Weisheng would team up. As for the leader role, neither Xie Junmo nor Han Weisheng showed much interest, so Pei Yufeng ended up assuming the responsibility.
With just ten minutes remaining until the third test, Pei Yufeng, Xie Junmo, and Han Weisheng conversed with one another before being approached by a pair of siblings who wanted to join them. Pei Yufeng was about to decline them until she heard the older brother coughing intensely, looking extremely ill and close to fainting.
If it weren't for his sister's support, he could have collapsed right then and there.
At that moment, Pei Yufeng hesitated. She knew that declining them would leave these siblings to face the third test alone. An impossible feat for a sickly boy and a girl new to cultivation.
Although she wasn't a saint, she didn't want anyone to miss out on an important opportunity.
While Pei Yufeng was pondering, Han Weisheng directly invited them to be part of the team.
Even though he wasn't supposed to act without consulting her, he didn't want Pei Yufeng to be stuck in a dilemma. If her concern was about the team's performance, then let him be held accountable for accepting them. After all, his intention was to offer them help, just as she had done for him.
Pei Yufeng looked at Han Weisheng with a wry smile before giving in.
As soon as the siblings joined, the crowd scattered. No one was interested in joining anymore. Not when their results were at stake.
Fu Ling thanked Pei Yufeng and Han Weisheng profusely. Given her brother's situation, it would be nothing short of a miracle if a team were willing to accept them.
Just then, the bell rang.
Before them stood a disciple in black, who proceeded to explain the third test.
