Amelia

I didn't know what to jump for joy for first; the fact that Dion had kissed me or the fact that the mysterious name I'd mused over for years finally had some meaning to it.

"Are you kidding me?" I said, excitement rising inside me.

"No. I know him really well. We have...mutual interests." He grinned. "We have a good relationship."

"Can you take me to him? Now?"

He chuckled. "I understand you're keen to find him and ask questions, but I think it's best if we leave it alone, just for now, until we've dealt with Santini. One thing at once."

I sighed. I really didn't want to agree with him, but my gut feeling was that he was right. "Ok. But I think we should deal with Santini ASAP."

"Ok...what do you suggest we do?"

"I suggest that we take the fight to him."

He raised an eyebrow. "But he's already down here, looking for you." He pursed his lips and said, "I haven't mentioned it before because I'm convinced he was bluffing but he said he knew where you were because the dogs had GPS tracking in their microchips. Is that a possibility?"

My heart stopped. My breath caught in my throat. "What? No." The idea flew around my mind, my paranoia increasing by the second. "No. If he knew where I was all the time then why hasn't he come for me before now?"

"That's what I thought. I think he discovered Slim Jim's body and decided to float around in the hopes of catching a lucky break. Not unless he's been playing a very cruel mind game for the past four weeks."

"It really wouldn't surprise me if he had been." Beads of sweat broke out all over me, making me shiver despite the climbing heat. "He can't have done. He can't have known where I was all this time." I tried to squash the bad feeling in my gut and followed Dion's lead. "I think you're right, I think he's calling your bluff. He might have let me run off for a few days but four weeks, whilst pregnant with his child? No way. He wouldn't allow that in a million years."

"Something still doesn't add up as to why he came to me specifically. He might have been genuine and just been in the area, but my instincts tell me otherwise."

"We need to deal with him. Now."

"Now?"

"Now. Let's go back home and figure something out quick because I can't keep living in fear of him coming for me. I have to finish what I started."

A broad smile swept across Dion's face. When he didn't say anything but just kept grinning at me like an idiot, I had to ask him what he found so amusing.

"You said 'let's go home'. Does this mean you're starting to feel like you might be staying?"

My cheeks burned with heat. "I...I'm sorry, I didn't realise what I said. It just kinda slipped out."

"It's ok, Amelia," he said, cupping my cheek with his hand. "If you view my home as your home then that makes me a very happy man."

I blushed and dropped my eye contact. In all honesty, the welcome and safety I'd been shown so far made it feel like the home I'd been missing ever since my eighteenth birthday.

"Come on," I said, shuffling off his lap. "Let's get going and get something sorted."

"Yes, mi lady," he replied, laughing.

As Dion led me out to his bike, I felt like my world had just developed another layer but this time it was only a layer of happiness, comfort, and safety.
