Anweria, Holy Sanctium Empire
Former capital, but also the residence of Wealk Monarchy. The ruling dynasty of Sanctium—Emperor Ronald IV, Queen Victoria I, Crown Prince and current Regent Aust, along with big shots such as General Favius and Fleet Admiral Zunav—sat with expressions heavy with worry. The topic at hand was the whereabouts of Princess Lizette, who was expected to have returned from the Eastern Continent. Yet the message they received was far from reassuring.
I’ll be spending my time at the Cignus Federation, another transferred nation like us. Please give me some time here, as I’m handling something very important. Also, for Sister Astrid to return back to normal, someone here can help her.
Those were the words Lizette had left, with nonexistent clarity about her current state or activities. There's nothing wrong on her activities but rather the real issue was her location.
Fleet Admiral Zunav broke the tense silence. “Admiral Calth has relayed that, for the entire week, the princess has been with the ruler of Cignus Federation, engaging in high-level contact. On multiple occasions, they have had private discussions, and it appears she’s been carefully looking after the young lady named Cecily.”
“I didn’t ask for a report on their interactions. I want my daughter back here now!” Emperor Ronald IV slammed his hand down on the table. “How could the handmaidens allow an unmarried princess to tag along with potential enemies? Not only that, but they are also otherworlders, militarily strong and just as unpredictable as us! Order Calth to bring my daughter back!” he roared, his fury echoing through the room. The officials and military leaders exchanged uneasy glances, sighing at the tension.
“I’ll do it.” Aust rose from his seat decisively. “Zunav, prepare all Vanguard-class battlecruisers and the required number of supply ships. We’ll head to the Eastern Continent, full steam, and bring my sister back,” he declared without hesitation.
“Regent Aust, I must strongly advise against this,” Zunav interjected. “Four battlecruisers and supply ships for a 50,000-kilometer journey is far from ideal. It’s a risky endeavor!”
The Vanguard class, Sanctium’s most advanced battlecruisers—comparable to the Des Moines-class heavy cruisers but equipped with three twin 11-inch guns—had an operational range of approximately 28,000 kilometers at 12 knots. While theoretically capable of reaching the Eastern Continent with supply ships, the proposal to leave their only crown prince chase after their only first princess with potential conflict was unfathomable.
“Would you take responsibility for this, Zunav?!” Aust roared, his voice reverberating through the chamber.
“Yes,” Zunav replied, calm and unwavering.
“Will that responsibility matter if something happens to my sister?!” Aust retorted, his fury sparking through the room.
“Let’s believe in the princess, shall we?” Zunav said, meeting Aust’s towering figure with an unyielding resolve. “We know Her Highness Lizette is both stubborn and cautious, but also wise. She wouldn’t have gone there if there was danger—let alone stayed there.” He paused, his voice steady. “Besides...”
“Besides what?” Aust rattled impatiently.
“The handmaidens noticed something... unusual about this Lady Cecily,” Zunav began, his tone polite as the emperor, the queen, and Aust leaned in with intent. “They remarked on the uncanny similarities between Lady Cecily and a younger Her Highness Lizette,” he continued. “It’s almost like looking at the teenage princess, they claimed.”
“What nonsense are you spouting now, Zunav?!” Aust barked, his frustration evident.
“It doesn’t end there,” Zunav added, his gaze flickering across the royal family who had the power to make his words his last. “They’ve overheard Lady Cecily calling the princess ‘mom’ on at least one occasion. What’s more, the princess is unusually affectionate toward her,” he revealed.
