With the detached fleet, also known as the Imperial Judgment Fleet, sent to attack the Zeroth Fleet, the periphery of the eastern Imperial Gra Valkan Fleet was on high alert. Among them was the destroyer Xarus, a modified high-speed picket ship tasked with detecting potential aerial attacks. The heightened alert was due to alarms raised by the fleets of Cignus and Sanctium, whose presence had caused the Gra Valkan plans to attack Milishial to falter.
However, no enemy had yet arrived.
The situation was becoming tedious, yet complacency was not an option, given the potential for even small-scale attacks—reminiscent of their battles back in Yggdra against the Kingdom of Kane.
"Nothing?" one of the staff members asked the radar operator.
"None," came the usual reply.
Then, a clutter appeared briefly on the radar from the west but vanished almost immediately due to the Gra Valkan radar's seven-second refresh interval. "Wait," the operator muttered. "Something..." He stared intently as a new blip appeared 3 kilometers away, moving at an extraordinary speed. Confusion set in; their radar's detection range was approximately 250 kilometers, yet this anomaly defied expectations.
"One of the gunners has spotted something in the air!" a voice reported.
"Another report—10 aircraft in formation! They're too fast!"
"What are the radar operators doing? Confirm their identity!"
Amid the chaos, the radar operator struggled to process the readings. "Over 800 kilometers?!" he exclaimed, adjusting the radar equipment to different frequencies. He quickly realized confirmation wasn’t necessary. "Enemy attack!" he shouted.
The alarm spread rapidly. "Enemy attack! They're heading directly for the fleet!" the communication operators relayed. "15 kilometers away from the fleet!" Anti-air autocannons roared to life, tracers filling the sky as the silhouettes of the approaching aircraft grew clearer.
"What the heck are those?!" someone shouted in disbelief. Soon after, the radar picked up another anomaly—massive numbers of blimps emerging on the radar's edge. "200 attack aircraft approaching from the west! Potential Sanctium-Cignus strike force! Inform all forces and prepare for defense!" an officer ordered.
Then, another disaster struck.
"The communications are down! It's all static!" the comm officer exclaimed, his face pale as he turned to the staff. "Call the captain! We can't do a thing!"
"What the hell are these countries?!" a staff member cursed as he sprinted to alert the captain. Urgent orders were needed to turn the ship back toward the main fleet as the attack began.
Eastern Imperial Gra Valkan Fleet
The fleet was abuzz as an inbound attack was underway. "How far are the aircrafts coming?!" Artemis roared, as his men scrambled to man their stations amidst the blaring alarms echoing throughout the fleet.
"Altitude 5,000, speed over 800 kph! They'll reach the fleet in 60 seconds, Admiral!" one of his men shouted as the incoming intruders defied comprehension. "Additional attackers are at the edge of the radar, approximately 200 in number, speed about 400 kph—half the speed of the current intruding formation," he concluded.
"Whatever the case, open fire on your discretion! Shoot them down at sight!" Artemis commanded before turning to the comm officer. "How long until my planes are in the air?"
"They're still prepping! Most of their weapons are bombs and torpedoes, Admiral, meant for attacking the Zeroth Fleet and the Catralpas. There are no fighters on deck—only a few squadrons for CAP are available! The carriers have redirected them to intercept posture."
