Phil's POV

I couldn't believe this. Dan kissed me. Heather was dead. Dylan was mine. Dan is a hit man, who was supposed to kill me, but instead wanted me to run away with him. It was too much to take in. All of this, interrupting my simple life on a seemingly ordinary day. I might as well roll with it, and hope it's just another really weird dream.

It's weird to think about how different other people's lives are. Someone died today, someone else was born. Someone got married to the love of their life, someone else left the person they once thought they'd always love. Someone spent the whole day sitting on the couch, watching Netflix, and there were millions of children who went to school. And here I was, having the most twisted day of my entire life.

"Phil? I know it may seem a bit absurd, and I fully understand if you don't trust me, but I want to do what's best for you and Dylan. This is our only hope. Please, just say something," I heard Dan say, pulling me from my thoughts.

"It's the only way?" I ask.

"Well, it's the safest, I think. We could go into witness protection, but the people my family works for are good. They'd manage to find you, somehow. I know they would. The only way that we could be 100% safe is to drop off the grid completely," Dan said. I could tell he was incredibly nervous. He was trying to be calm, but he was biting the side of his cheek when he wasn't talking and he couldn't stand still.

"Okay," I whisper. I don't want to have to do this, but it's the only way to save everyone. It was the only option that I could consider.

"We're going to need to get our things together, we can't stay here for much longer. They could already be onto us," Dan said, walking towards the doorway.

"Your stuff is still packed, right?" I ask him. He responds with a nod. "I can't take it though." I decide not to question him for the time being.

"I have something I need to do. Do you have a box or something I can have?" he asks me.

"Check the closet," I say, walking to my room. I find a suitcase and start putting clothes in it. I pack as much as I can fit, seeing how I don't know how long we'll be on the run. The bag isn't very big, but it's big enough to hold quite a bit of stuff.

"Will you need to borrow some clothes?" I yell down the hall towards Dan. I can see him writing something, and he has a box next to him.

"Yeah, mine are going in this box," he says, slightly raising his voice.

I grab another suitcase and put the remainder of my clothes in it for Dan. We appear to be similar in size, he's not too much taller than I am, so my clothes will probably fit him.

I find the sleeping bags I had purchased when Heather and I went camping a few months ago. I thought if I could get her away from  everything for a few days she would see that life without drinking and partying wasn't too bad. It obviously didn't work.

I attach them to the tops of the suitcase, and pull them down the hall. "What else will we need?" I ask Dan.

"Do you have a tent?" he asked me, and I nodded. I walked over to the closet and pull out the small red tent.

"We're going to want pillows too, and possibly some food and water to hold us over for a few days. And we're going to need money, all in cash. Cards can be traced way too easily," Dan tells me.

I find my old backpack and put some bread, bottled water, granola bars, canned foods, and a few other things. I wander around the house, throwing in some other small things that we might need. I manage to stuff the pillows into the suitcase.
