I. Chapter 29
Luna Eloise Silva

-

Luna never felt like she was a Silva, not really. That damned last name brought her nothing but terror, starting with her father's reputation, ending with how it haunted her to maintain an image of herself back in England. People were terrified of her for how her anger consumes and destroys, it terrified her on how good it feels for people to be scared of her. Truly, she felt like a sadist, psychotic. Something was definitely wrong with her and she wanted to know why she differs from the rest of the world. Why does she feel so angry all the time and why can't she help but hurt her sister in situations she can't control her rage?

Evelyn never treated her differently. Luna remembers her saying that they were sisters and no amount of bad feud or bad history could take that away from them. No matter how much she hurt Evelyn for being unable to contain the monster that lashes out of her cage in her, they were family. Their connection runs deep, they loved each other, they would do anything to protect one another.

For once in her life maybe, just maybe, this was something Luna could do to return the favor for Evelyn. For Evelyn was constantly there to be by her side when everything goes wrong, Luna had to not be there for her to do the same gesture. For that, she didn't have any regrets when a plan was formed to lead this vampire tracker from the town of Forks, away from Evelyn, away from her mother, from Charlie. It's the right thing to do, Luna understands just as much. But it didn't mean she wasn't terrified for her own safety.

"I'm sorry we got here, Luna." The apologies never seemed to cease. Luna's knee stopped bouncing and she tore her eyes away from the window, looking at Bella who sat besides her on the edge of the bed.

"It's not your fault, Bella. Do not apologize for something you had no control over." That gush of wind was Luna's enemy right now. If it hadn't blown in just the right direction, Bella's scent wouldn't have appealed so openly to the vampires. Then, they wouldn't have noticed Luna too. Maybe. Alice told her about it during the car trip to Phoenix when Bella was asleep.

"I just feel so useless right now. James was the one who targeted me, you shouldn't have gotten caught in the middle of it." Bella frowns, shaking her head. She recalled that day in the clearing, how James crouched like a predator, how Edward did the same in front of Bella but more protective but just as viciously. How the woman in the clearing scanned the rest of the Cullens, how she was the one that distinguished Luna being human, too. That wouldn't have happened if Bella wasn't in the way, she just knew it.

Luna lets go of the baggage on her shoulder, feeling a little pathetic when she grinned, weak, but amusement lingered in her eyes. "Can we stop blaming ourselves now? Seriously, I don't blame you."

"I blame me."

"Now you're beginning to sound like your lover." Luna teases with a hidden smirk, making Bella cringe at her use of words. Then, Bella realizes she was diverting their conversation to a more lighter setting, making her lift up a smile. Luna laughs, "I'm sure if I was the only human there, I'm the one being fussed over and protected. This couldn't have been avoided."

"I can't believe you're laughing right now. I thought you'd get pissed at me. Or at the world." Bella points out, her shoulders sagged as she gave in to the delusion of being so tense lately.

"Oh, I am. Maybe not at you. The world, definitely. Although, that isn't something exactly new. I've always been pissed at the world for every inconvenient thing that ever happened to me." Luna sucks in a tight breath, shallow. "I hate feeling useless too, by the way. But we can't do anything but wait. Try to relax and trust Edward and the others. They know what they're doing." She suggests.
