"We have to go find the sensei's." I muttered to Miguel after a solid hour of training with Chosen.
"I know, they should've been back by now, we're loosing valuable time." he replied.
"Then why can't we just go get them?" I suggested.
"We don't know where they are...."
I pointed out the window of the gym at two shapes that looked suspiciously like our sensei's on the beach.
"Oh..." Miguel muttered.
****
We crossed the sand as Daniel shoved Johnny.
"Hey!" Miguel yelled, "What the hell are you two doing?" He held out his arms questioningly whilst I shook my head disapprovingly.
Moments later we had convinced them to sit in the sand and Miguel and I stood in front of them looking down on them.
"Ok, I'm not leaving until the two of you tell me what's going on." Miguel chirped as he plodded back and forth in the sand.
"And make it double-time too, we have captains to train." I added.
"It's fine with me, it's a topless beach." Johnny joked.
"I'm serious. I thought you guys were done with this shit." Miguel shot him straight down.
I looked between them and their sorry excuse for a friendship.
"We were. But we never really are, I guess." Daniel explained.
"LaRusso just found out his sensei isn't who he thought he was and I just found out mine is exactly who I thought he was and I'm never getting rid of him." Johnny rambled and I nodded slowly, taking it all in before opening my mouth.
"And did you learn your sick karate moves from them?" I asked.
"Well, no shit we did." Johnny shot back as Daniel nodded solemnly.
"Then does it really matter if your senseis turned out to be, well, shitty. They gave you one of the best things you have in life so does it really matter..." I looked at both of them and Miguel tagged onto my point.
"Yeah, it sucks but it doesn't change the fact that you turned a bunch of bullied kids into one of the most badass dojos this world has ever seen. Okay?"
I watched Miguel give his speech proudly.
"Sure, you taught us some things that your senseis taught you, but you guys added something new on top of it. I mean, shit. Did Kreese turn a...a wimpy, skinny little kid into one of the All-Valley champs in six months?"
"Did Kreese convince me to start training again?" I asked, looking at Johnny.
"Did he fix me when I was broken?" Miguel asked.
"Or chase after us in Mexico?" I smiled.
"Not a chance." Johnny smirked.
"No way." Miguel confirmed. "And Mr Miyagi, I mean, did he take every single one of these kids from the Valley when Cobra Kai came back?"
I shifted my gaze to Daniel, "Or help to bring old friends back together?"
"Did he crane-kick Silver out of the Valley for good?"
Daniel tilted his head, clearly agreeing with Miguel.
"Ok, so are you two gonna let your issues with your senseis keep you from doing what you need to be doing? Going in there and being the senseis that we need to win this world tournament?" Miguel spoke strongly, confidently, he truly believed that we needed them.
"Hell no." Johnny agreed, getting to his feet.
"You make a good point." Daniel chimed.
"Damn right they do." Johnny agreed, "What do you say we hit the gym and get Sam and Robby ready to win this?"
He reached down and clapped hands with Daniel, pulling him to his feet.
He smiled mischievously at Johnny, "I got a better idea."
***
"Lets go!" Johnny called.
"Come on, keep it up!" Daniel pushed.
I ran behind Sam and Robby with Miguel. We'd come along to train beside them, supports for our captains as well as our sensei's.
Johnny and Daniel hung out of a tuk tuk and chased behind us, cheering us on as we ran through the streets of Barcelona.
***
I stood next to Miguel watching as Daniel showcased Miyagi-Do defence with Sam and Robby in front of the beautiful skyline of Barcelona.
"Robby's footing is a little off." I picked up, pointing it out to Miguel.
"And Sam could do with more central balance, one kick and she's down." he replied.
We were picking their technique apart from the sidelines, focusing on perfecting their karate so that they had no gaps to slip through in the semi-final fights. By analysing, correcting and practicing improved technique we could train them to be ten times better in just a single day.
Daniel and Johnny switched, Robby and Sam showcased their attack ability.
"Sam's right hook needs to be more central, better to hit straight and know where you're going to strike." I pointed at her, tracing the curve of her arm as Miguel nodded, seeing what I was.
"Similarly, Robby needs to draw that kick in, he's gotta hit the same point every single time. It's a foolproof way to know where's he's hitting." I watched Robby jump up and kick and addressed the way he didn't quite hit the same spot on the second attempt.
"You're right, we can fix that." I smiled at Miguel and he grinned back excitedly.
***
They trained in the square with a bo each. Slowed down this was easy but they needed to be faster in order to take on the Sekai Taikai captains.
"Like this!" I called, turning to Miguel with the spare bo in my hand, I twirled it and brought it down, stopping just short of his foot then whipped it around my back and froze inches away from his face, "They'll never see it coming."
"Good shout." Sam called back, whipping the bo round her back and practicing the move I'd showed them.
***
Inside the cathedral, they practiced katas. Useful to remember during a fierce battle like the ones they were about to partake in.
They pushed their hands forwards, following Daniel's movements, almost in sync.
***
In the market, Miguel and I joined in the training, passing watermelons and squatting before tossing it on to the next person.
***
I watched as Robby and Sam finally perfected their defence and attack moves. I smiled cheerfully at Miguel and clapped him on the shoulder proudly.
"Perfect." I said excitedly.
"Perfect." Miguel confirmed.
***
Sam drew round the bo and stopped just before Robby's ear and I clapped.
"Nice work, excellent execution." I cheered and she smiled proudly back over at me.
***
We stood atop an abandoned moat, all four of us practiced our karate in sync.
Perfect moves with perfect technique.
