Dec 4
Ela goes to practice with her classmates. She doesn't like the boy called Blake. But she has to practice. She said that today is the last day and she will play with me tomorrow. I'm alone with Mom. She asked me to take out the trash.
I waited for Ela, but her practice is taking so long. I watched Troopie. Before we eat dinner, Ela is back. She's smiling again when she looks at the pink envelopes. I'm sitting behind her and writing. Ela is happy. I like Stephen. He makes Ela smile.
Dec 5
Ela told me that Blake ruined the show. He goes to the stage when it's not his time. Ela is sad and is not talking. She didn't look at the envelopes today. She stays in my room and study here. My sister is pretty, but she looks like Auntie Peg when she's sad.
Dec 8
My teacher gave me five stars for my drawing. Ela smiles again today. She probably forgot what his classmate Blake did. Ariel stayed with us during the weekend. They watched movies and cartoons with me. But Ela is thinking right now and doesn't tell me about her school. And she is still studying when I go to sleep.
Dec 11
We have exams today... tomorrow exams again. Ela teaches me after Troopie show. She told me I understand easily what she says. She's a great teacher. I understand her more than my teacher in school. Mom is not home. Me and Ela eat junk food. Patrick will scold me again when he hears about it but Ela won't tell him. Patrick is a doctor for children. We visit him when I'm sick. He also said that he would marry my mom. Stephen called after we eat junk food. It is our secret. Ariel told me that she gave him our number so that he could call us and I should give the phone to Ela when he called. Ela always smiles when she talks to Stephen. She's pretty when she smiles. Ariel is now here. I will stop writing. She looks at my things and she thinks I do not know. She will stay tonight and study with Ela. Mom is not coming home.
Dec 12
Exam is over and we don't have school until New Year. Ela will leave me with Mom tonight. She will go to Jane's party. It's a party with her classmates so she can't take me with her. I will just go to the bathroom before I write again.

"Are you writing a diary?" I asked her when she got out of the bathroom. I found it underneath her books. She used the purple Troopie notebook that I gave her as a present. All this while, I thought she was only doing some assignment for school whenever I saw her writing on it.
Kath ran from the bathroom, and her face was deep red. She grabbed the notebook from my hands and hid it behind her. Her eyes were focused on the floor, as if she was about to cry.
"I'm so sorry for reading it, Kath. Swear, I will not read your diary again. I promise," I told her, feeling guilty. Sitting on the heel of my toes, I put my hands on her shoulders. "Don't be angry, okay?
