The air in Seattle Grace Mercy West was buzzing with the energy of a hospital in flux. The merger between Seattle Grace and Mercy West had brought a wave of new faces into the mix, and the place was nothing like it had been before.

Honey's was focused as she made her way down the hall to meet her interns. Her mind was already on her rounds, the surgeries she needed to prepare for, and the upcoming cases that required her attention. She was deep in thought when something in her peripheral vision caught her attention—bright orange scrubs.

Mercy West scrubs?

Honey stopped for a second, blinking, as she looked up and saw a tall, familiar figure walking toward her. His presence, even in the sea of new faces and change, was unmistakable.

Jackson.

She froze for a moment, her heart doing a strange little flip in her chest. She hadn't seen Jackson Avery in weeks. She never expected to see him again, let alone here, in the middle of this chaotic merge between two hospitals.

Jackson's gaze was still ahead of him as he walked closer, but then his eyes flickered toward her. The moment their gazes met, his face softened, and his lips tugged into a smile that was both familiar and foreign.

"Honey," Jackson said, his voice warm but with a hint of surprise. "I didn't expect to see you here.

"I work here." Honey said before that was all it took for the room to feel like it was spinning.

Her heart skipped a beat, and in that moment, all of the conflicting feelings she had about their previous interactions rushed back to her.

But just as quickly as the feeling hit, she pushed it down, deciding to do the one thing that made the most sense—avoidance. She didn't know how to handle this. Not now. Not like this.

Without thinking, her legs carried her forward and to the right, away from Jackson. She didn't even know where she was going—just away.

She didn't know why it felt like such a shock. But seeing him there in those orange scrubs—those ugly ass orange scrubs—threw her off. She hadn't known that Jackson was part of this merger, and in the brief moment of panic, she just needed to escape.

She moved quickly, hoping to get out of his sight before things got even more complicated. But just as she rounded the corner, she heard his voice again. "Honey!" he called, the tone a bit louder now, more insistent.

She paused mid-step, biting her lip, torn between stopping and continuing to escape.

She slowly turned, bracing herself for whatever conversation was about to come. When she saw him standing a few feet away, his expression was softer, understanding, but also confused. He was taking in the fact that she had literally rushed away from him, and for some reason, it felt almost like a slap in the face.
