-This sucks. This really sucks. You don't want to be here. You'd rather be in that blind date right now that you have right after this than be in this room. And that says a lot, considering how much you've been dreading that all day too.
It was suffocating and it's only reminding you of what's unraveled in your life recently. You sat in one of the many conference rooms in the Eldia Group main building, waiting for the hearing to start.
Levi drove you here, and the drive was just as uncomfortable as the one earlier that morning when he drove you to work. He was in the lobby right now, waiting for you to be done with the meeting, and every time he surfaced in your mind, you pushed him away. You needed to focus.
You know that it's ironic that even if the whole thing about the will, being chairwoman, and filling the position was one of your biggest problems right now, it didn't mean it was any less of a nuisance. But you decided, that you'd do this for Grisha.
He wanted you to give this your best shot. You'd decided that from the moment it was announced that it would go to you. No turning back now. You were already here. You'd go all the way.
Still, you couldn't shake the feeling of just how real this was all becoming. It was all so soon. Things were being put in motion and you hoped you at least had the littlest bit of 'normalcy' before this started, but that hope was long gone now. It was just wishful thinking.
Any moment now, the votes would decide on an acting chairperson, whether it was you or someone else. This was only until someone took the permanent position.
You know that your presence here is important, but that didn't make it any more bearable. You could feel Karina and Zeke staring daggers at you from across the table, and you were trying your best to ignore it because you just wanted to get it over with and get out of here.
You, along with many other associates, sat at a long rectangular table that stretched across the room. Nearly all the seats were taken, except for the head of the table, which is where the chairperson usually sat. Whoever was voted in today would be sitting there. There was also a wall on the other end of the table where a projector displayed a presentation.
You left the seat next to you empty hoping Erwin would show up. You texted him on your way here and asked him if he was going to be here for the voting, and he said yes.
You saved him a seat, just in case. Nobody noticed but you were bouncing your leg up and down anxiously under the table, waiting for Erwin to get here. You needed his support more than ever. You couldn't possibly do this alone and it was almost time to start the meeting.
But right now, all you could do was sit up straight in your chair, keep your head up high and pretend like Karina and Zeke weren't hiding their distaste for you from across the table.
Though, of course, some were more discreet than others. Zeke was hiding it better than Karina. She was seething and you could see it as clear as day. You wouldn't be surprised if lasers came out of her eyes, or if she tried that for that matter.
This was the first time you'd seen them in person since the memorial, and honestly, you shouldn't have expected anything less from them. This is the way things are now, especially with the way you defied them in front of everyone and were chosen for the inheritance. Nothing was the same and there was no chance of finding any sort of common ground.
As you continued to remain silent and patient for this meeting to start, you couldn't help but let your nerves show and your eyes betrayed you. Your eyes were flickering around everyone in the room as you felt your chest start to tighten.
