"Seokjin?" Jungkook said softly, his voice barely breaking the quiet of the evening.
Jin didn't startle, but his shoulders tensed almost imperceptibly. He didn't turn around immediately, continuing to gaze out at the darkening sky. The silence stretched, filled only with the gentle chirping of crickets from the garden below.
Finally, after what felt like a long moment, Jin spoke, his voice low and almost a whisper. "Oh. It's you." He still didn't turn.
Jungkook took a few more steps closer, stopping a respectful distance away. He could see the tension in Jin's posture, the way his hands gripped the railing a little too tightly. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice laced with genuine concern.
Jin let out a small, humorless chuckle. "Am I alright? My future is being decided downstairs, and the man I'm supposed to marry is asking if I'm alright." He finally turned, his eyes meeting Jungkook's, and Jungkook was struck by the unusual lack of their usual playful spark. They looked... troubled.
"They're just talking," Jungkook said gently. "No decisions have been made yet. Your grandfather values your happiness, I can tell."
Jin scoffed softly. "Does he? Because it feels more like he's honoring a promise made a lifetime ago." He looked back out at the horizon, his gaze distant again.
Jungkook hesitated for a moment, unsure how to proceed. He sensed a deeper unease in Jin than just his aversion to the marriage. "You seemed... quiet," he ventured, trying to keep his tone light. "Earlier, when I saw you."
Jin finally turned back to face him fully, leaning against the railing. "Did you?" He offered a small, forced smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Maybe the exams finally drained all the drama out of me."
But Jungkook wasn't convinced. There was a fragility in Jin's demeanor that he hadn't witnessed before. "Is that all it is?" he pressed gently.
Jin's gaze flickered away again, a shadow passing over his face. He hesitated, then sighed, a sound that seemed to carry more weight than it should. "There's... something else," he admitted quietly, his voice barely audible. "Something I haven't told anyone."

"Why don't you want to marry me, Seokjin?" Jungkook asked, his voice soft but direct, cutting through the quiet tension on the terrace.
Jin finally turned to face him fully, his expression a mix of defiance and a hint of something deeper. "You are six years older than me!" he blurted out, as if that single fact explained everything.
"So..." Jungkook replied, his gaze steady. "You think it's not a good idea to start a family with an older man?"
Jin's eyes flickered away, a shadow of pain crossing his face. "My father was also six years older than my mom... their marriage didn't work. I'm afraid I'll have to go through the same!" The raw vulnerability in his voice was unexpected.
Jungkook's expression softened. "You don't even know me, Seokjin. Assuming I'm like your father... it's not right. Give me some time. Let me show you how I am. After knowing me, if you still want to cancel the marriage... I will understand. But reaching a conclusion without knowing me isn't fair to either of us."
This idiot... Jin thought furiously. He's not leaving me alone until he's married to me... crazy... Seokjin... do something! He's too much dramatic, and I can't bear him after this marriage! I couldn't even cancel this marriage... My mom will kill me if I do it, and my grandfather will never talk to me!
Taking a deep breath, Jin decided on a more drastic approach. He looked directly at Jungkook, his eyes wide and filled with a fabricated despair. "I have a brain tumor!" he announced, the words hanging heavy in the air. It wasn't a complete lie; the fear of it had been very real moments ago.
"What?" Jungkook said, his initial surprise quickly turning to concern.
"I am dying," Jin continued, his voice trembling slightly, adding to the dramatic effect. "Do you want to marry a person who is going to die soon? Reject this marriage... please!" He pleaded, hoping his desperate lie would finally work.
Jungkook's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of suspicion in their depths. "I hope it's not a drama again, just to break the marriage. It's not a thing to joke about."
"Your family knows about your brain tumor?" Jungkook asked, his voice serious.
Jin shook his head vehemently. "No... my mom will die if she finds out!" He hoped the added layer of familial drama would make his lie more believable, picturing Jungkook recoiling at the thought of marrying someone with such a tragic secret. Yes! he thought triumphantly. He's going to break it off!
