The aroma of freshly baked cake filled the dorm, a sweet prelude to Jungkook's birthday celebration. Jin carefully carried the frosted confection into Jungkook's room, his heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation. The other members followed, their faces beaming with well wishes.
They gathered around Jungkook, singing a cheerful rendition of "Happy Birthday" as he blew out the candles, a wide smile gracing his lips. After the cake was cut and shared, a comfortable warmth settled in the room. Jin took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on Jungkook.
"Jungkook-ah," he began, his voice slightly trembling, "there's something I've wanted to tell you for a long time." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. Kneeling down before Jungkook, he opened it to reveal a simple silver ring. "Jeon Jungkook," Jin continued, his gaze earnest and full of love, "I love you. More than as a brother. Will you... will you be my boyfriend?"
The room fell silent, the festive atmosphere suddenly replaced by a palpable tension. Jungkook's eyes widened in surprise, his smile faltering. He looked from the ring to Jin's hopeful face, a conflicted expression clouding his features.
"Hyung," Jungkook began softly, his voice laced with regret, "I... I don't feel that way about you. I love you too, but... as a brother. My heart... it belongs to someone else." He then turned to Jimin, who stood nearby, his gaze filled with affection. "Jimin-ah," Jungkook said, his voice now firm with conviction, "I love you. Will you be my boyfriend?"
Jimin's eyes widened in surprise, a blush spreading across his cheeks. He looked at Jungkook, then at the heartbroken expression on Jin's face. After a moment of stunned silence, a soft smile bloomed on Jimin's lips. "Yes, Jungkook-ah," he whispered, reaching for Jungkook's hand.
The air in the room crackled with unspoken emotions. Jin remained kneeling, the open ring box heavy in his hand, his heart sinking with a crushing wave of rejection. He slowly stood up, his gaze fixed on the newly formed couple, a raw ache blooming in his chest.
Later, Jin found Jimin alone, the weight of his confession still heavy on his heart. "Jimin-ah," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, "you knew how I felt about Jungkook. I told you. And still..." He couldn't finish the sentence, the hurt and betrayal evident in his eyes.
Jimin looked at Jin, his expression a mixture of sympathy and discomfort. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He had been caught off guard by Jungkook's sudden confession, his own feelings for the younger member a complicated mix of affection and camaraderie. He hadn't anticipated this outcome, hadn't considered the depth of Jin's feelings. He remained silent, unable to offer any words that could truly soothe Jin's wounded heart. The joyous birthday celebration had taken a sharp, painful turn, leaving Jin to grapple with the sting of unrequited love and the complicated new dynamic within their close-knit group.
