Nickel, feeling overlooked by everyone else, starts seeking out Book's attention. He pesters her playfully, eventually asking if he can lie next to her that night. They start talking—quiet, late-night murmurs—until the conversation shifts. Book admits she's never kissed a boy before. Nickel, with a crooked smile, says he's kissed plenty. Where could this lead?

After the chaos of BFDIA 17—where Pencil got eliminated and Nickel nearly broke the space-time continuum—it left both Book and Nickel feeling more than a little isolated.
Needle, sick of being caught in the middle of two teams, had decided to spend the night on her own, far away from all the drama. That left Book without a single member of her Freesmart crew. Not that she had many other connections in the game. Without Pencil, and with Ice Cube and Ruby gone, it felt like she was stranded. Alone. And it showed on her face.
Nickel, meanwhile, was dealing with the fallout of his own actions. Tennis Ball hadn't spoken a word to him all night, still mad about the... well, the accidental detonation and general timeline instability. Coiny and Pin—the ever-tight Woah Bunch duo—had firmly requested alone time. Nickel didn't argue. He respected it, even if he thought it was a little rude. Fries? He was doing whatever Fries did, or... did anyone even recover him? Whatever. So, yeah. That left Nickel alone too.
But wait—Book! She was alone! And they were, like... friends? Kinda? Sure, they'd never had deep one-on-one hangouts, but they'd shared some laughs! Like when they were falling through the sky!! And when they were pink? Classic moment. And hey, back on Team Stars, they'd shared some pretty fun times. Okay, they weren't besties, but still—Book had literally leaned on him earlier. That had to mean something, right?
Nickel decided then and there—tonight, he was going to sit with Book. Maybe even lay next to her, if she'd let him. For sleep purposes, obviously.
He happily walked around until he found her, sitting against the cold concrete wall of the Superstore. She looked small like that—worn down, thoughtful, and clearly upset.
He plopped down beside her without ceremony.
"Hey Book! Wow, you look different..." he tilted his head, narrowing his eyes with mock suspicion. "Wait—is your cover on backwards?"
Book sighed deeply, as if the air in her lungs was heavier than usual. "Yeah. It cost me the challenge. I was this close to winning too..." She didn't look at him.
Nickel glanced around awkwardly. "Yeah, well... TB thinks I blew the challenge for him. I mean, okay, I might've exploded him... and maybe accidentally destroyed all the Yoylelites... and possibly triggered a minor temporal rift or two..." He trailed off, laughing sheepishly.
Book finally turned toward him, alarmed. "Wait—what?!"
Nickel waved it off with his foot. "Eh, probably nothing! I mean, it's not like we were gonna win. Coiny and Pin are basically inseparable—they're gonna steamroll everyone. And like, they want Needle in Woah Bunch, but not me? What gives?! What did I ever do?" He grumbled.
Book's expression softened. "Needle doesn't even want to be in Freesmart anymore. She just left... Switched to be on a team with Fries... And Pencil..." Her voice dipped, a bitter frown forming. "She's been... distant. Ever since Needle showed up again. I don't know. Maybe I'm just being sensitive."
There was a silence between them. Then Nickel's voice perked up.
"Well—why don't we make a new alliance?" he said suddenly, hopping up and leaning way too close. "Just the two of us! You and me, taking on the world!"
