Welcome back everyone, it's been awhile since I played a Soulsborne game for the first time, and now we are here to do Fromsofts combination of a roguelike, soulsborne, multiplayer game... let's discuss Elden Ring Nightreign.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Premise:
Elden Ring Nightreign takes place in alternate take on the events after the Shattering War between Marika's children, however something happened and the Night began to fall upon the world, as it begins washing away the Golden Order, and the Lands Between as a hold, with eight Nightfarers rising to fight against them, all of them playable or having to be unlocked under very basic circumstances.
Nightreign is a roguelike game, and roguelikes are games where you essentially work towards one goal each run with each run having you become stronger over time, and in Nightreign's gameplay. You are able to have different urns and chalices that can be equipped with relics, some relics allow for the playable characters to have buffs to some of their abilities or allow for some basic advantages in the game, to give you an easier time during your expedition.
Each character has there own weapons at the start with some having a preferred weapon and with those preferred weapons they gain there own moveset which allows for a better time when you do play with those characters. These characters have there own quests that can be completed optionally that allow for an extra costume and other items to be used during your expeditions.
Now let me discuss more of the gameplay.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gameplay:
Nightreign has things called expeditions where you set yourself out on a three day expedition either by yourself or with two other people, those being either your friends or random people on your console or PC, yeah... there is no duo mode or crossplay... hopefully those come in a future update soon. Each expedition has a different Night Lord that needs to be defeated in order to be completed with the final Night Lord being the Night Aspect and is the final boss for the game.
Each day has you exploring Limveld, an ever changing landscape where you have to explore different areas, acquire flasks, defeat bosses, explore the area, and just try to get strong enough to face off against the Nightlord you chose to fight against. Eventually the night will begin to close in on a certain area, similar to the Storm in Fortnite, and your goal is to get to to the glowing Erdtree where you will fight off against an Elden Ring or one of the six current bosses from the Dark Souls trilogy those being (Centipede Demon and Gaping Dragon from DS1, Smelter Demon and Duke's Dear Freyja from DS2, Dancer of the Boreal Valley, and Nameless King from DS3 with the last one having the most excitement).
Once you get through two days of this, you enter the third and final day where you are given your final chance to prepare for the Night Lord, allowing you to level up, shop at a merchant, or upgrade your equipment if you can buy the resources and have the materials needed to do so. Once thats done you walk down a pathway to what looks like the Dark Souls 2: Throne of Want Door, open it and begin to fight the Night Lord.
Now... I'm going to keep my criticism for the Night Lords separate so I can discuss them in the bosses section.
