"She was lost in her longing to understand."
-Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Love in the Time of Cholera

~

You know those moments where you just want the ground to swallow you up and barf you out in the Sahara desert so that you can live there peacefully until you die of dehydration instead of facing reality?

Yeah, I'm pretty much going through one of those moments right now as I watch my parents fight to stay alive, their wolves screaming in pain and rage. My father stood atop one of the victims, scathing the rouges' neck between his teeth and tearing it out without hesitation.

I gasped and turned my face away and crouched behind a tree, tears pooling in my eyes. I held back a sob as my mother sprinted towards a rogue that was about to attack my father and jumped on it, dropping it effectively on the floor.

It's going to be alright, don't worry darling. We will protect you. My mothers voice rang through my ears.

I squeezed my eyes shut and let the tears fall freely. My sensitive hearing -perks of being a werewolf- caught low footsteps over the growling wolves at war. My eyes sprang open, my nose picking up another scent apart from blood, sweat and mud. It was very faint but I knew I had to be alert, It could be anyone.

I turned to look at the bloodshed, only in time to watch a rogue claw his nails through my father's flesh and reaching his heart, pulling it out without hesitation.

My heart constricted, a scream tore it's way through my throat and everything blurred are tears poured faster each second. The rogues turned around and looked at me, a wild gleam in thier eyes. I turned on my heel when my mother caught my eye. She lay limp on the ground, her chest heaving as she struggled to catch her breath. I wiped my tears as anger soared through my veins like wild fire. My wolf took over and shifted into its true form. The bones cracking into place as intense relief ran through me, fueling my anger furthermore.

I circled around the rouges, my pitch black fur gleaming in the sun. I growled, my jaw clenching in agony. One of them winced, but regained it's posture and inched towards me.

I heard soft whimpers from my mother behind me, I turned around only to be pushed into a tree from behind. I stood up, shaking my fur. I felt my left paw go weak from the impact.

By now, I was seeing red.

I ran towards the wolves in full force and sent one of them flying into the tree. Turning towards the other, I jumped on it and clenched its paws with my own. I held its neck with my fangs and bit hard, tasting blood. Then I pulled on it, making the body limp beneath me. The other wolf sat back as I growled loudly. It ran towards me and I treated it exactly the like the first wolf, killing it beneath me.

My wolf weakened, I heard her sobs as she came to terms with what she had done but I was too weak to comfort her. I limped towards my mother, her faint heartbeat beating in my ears. I held her arm, ready to sprawl her on my back and take her back to the house.

That's when everything blacked out.
