Decoding The Message Of Amber

Chapter 23

It happened whenever I least expected it too, I was sitting in my room, laid out on my bed tired from my shift at the pet shop whenever I got a call from North Dakota.

I answered it after two rings.

"Hello" I say
"Is this amber?" A familiar voice said
"Depends, who wants to know?" I say
"You're fiancé that's who" Sebastian says
"Um hello, how are you calling me right now" I say
"I'm using a pay phone, and I've got a pocket full of quarters, so yeah, how are you?" Sebastian says
"I'm good, I finished school and I'm working at the pet shop, and I got a tattoo, how about you?" I say
"Man, I've been gone longer than I thought huh?" Sebastian says
"Yeah I would say so" I say
"Do you miss me at all?" He says
"Of course I miss you" I say
"Have you been with anyone else?" Sebastian says
"Nope, I've just been deciding on what to do about you" I say
"Come up with anything yet, I'd like to know" Sebastian says
"I mean my boyfriend was a hood banger and lied to me about his true intentions on coming up here, so I don't exactly know what to believe" I say
"Amber, you're smarter than that; why do you think I'd leave the gang? I just kept thinking of you, and my friends, and my home, I can't wait to be home; I hate it here" Sebastian says
"How exactly is North Dakota?" I say
"It's cold, medical pot is legal, thank god or id blow my brains out, but I'm making a lot of money, so when I come back we can throw the grandest wedding, or get a really nice house." Sebastian says
"I just don't know about a wedding just yet" I say
"Oh, why is that?" Sebastian says
"I just feel like it's too soon, I don't know." I say
"We'll do you still love me" Sebastian says
"Yes" I say
"that's all I need to know to keep going, I love you very much Amber and I'm going to go now" Sebastian says
"I love you also" I say

Then just as fast as the call happened, it was over.

Still many questions of mine remain, I didn't want to tell him I don't love him because I don't want him to go crazy while being there, I just care a lot about him, he was a great boyfriend to me whenever he was here, the least I can do is be a good girlfriend while he is there.
As much as I want to have sex after prom I know I can't do that to him.

Speaking of prom, I have a tanning appointment to go too.

God I hate being a girl.

Whitney has completely iced me out, she won't call me, she won't text me, nothing, Patrick won't call or text me back either and it sucks that I'm no longer going to senior prom with my best friend or college with my best friend.
I should be mad at Sebastian for that, but because of him I was closest to her as ive been in months. He was just my ticket to popularity and since he is gone, I was gone in there life's.

I was really starting to think highly of them but they weren't there for me when I needed love and support.
It's really crazy how so much things can change.

So now I'm at all these prom appointments with zach's date to the prom.

Her name is Michelle, she is an junior in high school, they apparently had some class together but I don't know a lot about her, and it's probably the same way for her also.
Michelle is skinny, with green eyes, and freckles, and has long brown hair, she also has straight teeth, but she dresses kind of plain, which there is no problem with plain, she just is plain ol Michelle.

I walk into the salon and she waves for me over to sit by her while we get our nails done.

"Hey Amber, how are you?" She asks
"I'm good, how about you," I say
"I'm good, aren't you excited to go to prom with miles?" She asks
"If you would've told me the first day of my senior year that I was going to prom with him I probably would've slapped you because I just wouldn't have believed you" I say
"Yeah, he told me the same thing, he said that you used to hate him with everything you had, you would always give him dirty looks, and always rub Evan in his face" Michelle says
"He told you that?" I say
"Well yeah, sorry if I said too much, I have that problem" Michelle says
"No, it's all true, I just couldn't understand why he broke up with me" I say
"Yeah, it was because he was scared really, he didn't have any luck or history with girls, or at least that's how he explained it to me" Michelle said
"Yeah well now he is my best friend, he has been here for me whenever so many people I called friends werent" I say
"Well, your friends still love you amber, you're just a hard person to get through" Michelle says
"What do you mean?" I say
"Opal still loves you, zach still loves you, Damien misses you like crazy, you just pushed them all away when you got that boyfriend" Michelle says
"I didn't think I did, I just assumed they all took Evans side?" I say
"I don't care who is in his band but no one ever takes the side of the cheater, you just let Evan win is all" Michelle says
"You really do say to much" I say then laugh
"I'm sorry that's my problem, if I see something I say it." Michelle says
"So who are your friends?" I say
"I don't really have any, it's so hard to make friends at that school. I just don't get why you would ever go from hanging out with the coolest kids in school to hanging out with the kids who think They are popular" Michelle says
"My friends are really the cool kids?" I say
"Yeah man, I mean they are a band, and you and Evan were the top couple in school, everyone knows who you are, I mean you were the popular girl, not Ashley or Ashton or Chelsea, they were lucky to have you as a friend, not the other way around, everyone cared about what you were doing, that's why the whole school follows you online"Michelle says
"I never looked at it like that, I always thought we were the bottom of the totem pole" I say
"Not from where I was standing" Michelle says
"So you're saying I should go say hi to all my friends after this?" I say
"That's exactly what I'm saying" Michelle says
"Wow thank you Michelle" I say
"No problem, I'm glad we had something to talk about I was really nervous to get my nails done with you" Michelle says
"Why?" I say
"Like I said, you're the most popular girl in a school you don't even go to anymore, I mean everyone still talks about you, want to hear the rumors?" Michelle says
"Only the funniest ones" I say
"One was that you stole a lot of your dads money and you're backpacking through Europe with Sebastian, the other is that you just dropped out and our strung out on drugs, which isn't funny, and another I hear a lot is that you're modeling in New York." Michelle says
"God people are so stupid, I wish my life was that interesting" I say
"Rumors are rumors" Michelle says.
