Chapter 5

"Do you think Kakashi-sensei will be able to make it?"

"I doubt it, he's getting his face measured." Sakura replied, standing beside her blonde haired teammate. Sasuke was at the girl's other side, all three were holding one of the three half demon kits they'd promised to raise.

"If that doesn't stall him, I'm sure his new duties will." The raven said, not taking his gaze off the door before them.

Was this really happening? Had he really been able to finally move out of the dope's apartment? It felt too good to be true. No more having to pick up after the sloppy ninja or worrying about only having cup ramen to eat. He was setting out on his own again.

"Are you sure you don't want to settle in first, Sasuke? The kits can stay with me a little while longer."

His left eyebrow twitched, as he slightly frowned, still not moving his gaze. "Sakura, I didn't get a house with three extra bedrooms for nothing." He said, his voice even, still trying to convince her he would be able to raise his brother's children on his own.

"Oh, so you were planning on us staying here as well." Sai smiled, his annoyingly fake smile. He was carrying the last of the kits things. "I'm glad you've realized how hard it would be to watch them alone, Sasuke-san."

Said Uchiha's eyebrows met as he scowled. The former root shinobi was purposely trying to destroy his good mood. Hadn't he proved he could take of his niece and nephew on his own already? "No, Sai. The extra rooms are for when the kits are older." He hissed, venom filling his words.

Mio growled at his tone of voice, reminding him that the ginger kyuubi was in his arms and very aware of his plummeting emotions. Similar animalistic noises resonated from her brothers, all three looking up at their uncle with little scowls of their own.

It was all the other members of team seven could do to hide their laughter. If it was possible, the kits' frowns were the mirror image of the eldest Uchiha's. Something they all had in common with Itachi, Sasuke was sure they would just as easily copy the famous Uchiha smirk if he made one.

"Just remember we're always here, you can call any of us at any time." Sakura said, trying to catch his eye. "My house is only a couple blocks away, and Ibiki-sama's apartment building is only a few blocks further."

The avenger let a small grin form on his lips. He wasn't blind, he could tell she still felt a great deal for him. Though she was very adamant about being over him, and claiming he was no more important to her than Naruto. Sasuke could still see the glimmer of affection in her eyes whenever she talked or looked at him.

"I know." He said, almost in a hushed tone, as he maneuvered his niece into one arm, raising his free hand to open his front door. Even as he and Naruto had been moving and unpacking all his old things and the new items he'd bought, he still couldn't believe he'd bought a house, in Konoha no less. If someone had told him this would be happening two years ago he would have laughed and forced chidori through their chest.

The three remaining members of the original team seven seemed to hold their breath as he bushed open the door to his new home. This was a new chapter in not just his, but their fallen friend's children's life. There was no going back now, he'd be able to raise them in an environment that was safe and under his watchful eye.

Mebuki had been sad to see the kits go, but even she had agreed it was a good idea. Sasuke hadn't really understood what she meant when she said they would be able to finally begin to grow, as he'd thought they were developing like normal babies. Yet she hadn't tried to ease his confusion, and had only wished him the best and offered her services should he need them.
